Catrestorations has been advertizing in the "Old Car Trader" for many years, and from what I've read in numerous other forums, the vast majority will agree with you. I have yet to read any good to come out of the place. Maybe aside from his shipping charges? Which is what seems to attract most buyers into the deal. I'm with you on this, giving fellow car enthusiasts a heads-up, specially us from the rust belt.
Is this the same guy that called me wanting to sell my 70 montego? My caller's name was Matt and he was going to sell the car and only wanted a couple hundred bucks for his effort. We had a conversation....and well he got the message!!!
See if this works. It looks like his "restoration" business is a little brown shack. Across the road is a business complex with a different address. "Would you buy a used car from this man?"
I did the reverse phone thing and it doesn't show an address. He is just using a cell phone.

Maybe 2 or 3 different cars.....You have to remember, Vpike pictures can be years old........The one of my house shows a trailer in the drivway that I had for sale 3 years ago...If those are the same cars, he has had them a long time.......not much turnover
If you get burned bad enough by someone it is easy to get them. Just register a website for $10 with a name close to theirs, and when anyone googles them they get your site too. Then they can read all the crap on him and educate themselves before they buy. I truly believe that what comes around goes around.

hi everyone new to fourm was reading about c.a.t. restorations i was ripped off pretty good by this guy chad on a 69 galixie convertible spent 6200 by the time it landed in my driveway in toronto almost 4 years ago supposed to be a turn key soft restoration car was only worth maybe 2000 hadnt run in years roof completely destroyed he tried to blame railway for damages spen a lot of money on very little car chasing buddy off and on three and a half years finally had to sell it for 2000 if you want a car from this guy i suggest you go out and look at it first then dont lrt him or the vehicle out of sight i would like to hear from anyone who has been riuned buy this guy and his total nonsense maybe together we can do something we all put alot of time effort and money into these projects and i dont believe that they should misrepresent their equipment you should get what you pay for if not put them out of bussiness for all our sakes
My guess is , he will simply close shop , move somewhere else under a different name and carry on . I pay my OMVIC fees every year ( need them in the RV / trailer business ) and they are supposed to be involved with ridding this sort of thing ...sometimes I wonder .
As of February 04, 2013: the company is an unlicensed dealership selling vehicles online through public online classified websites including, Autotrader.ca. Dealerships in British Columbia are required to be licensed with the Vehicle Sales Authority. If you have a dispute regarding a business transaction with CAT Restoration, contact the Vehicle Sales Authority vehiclesalesauthority.com.

Curbsiders are what OMVIC ( Ont ) is supposed to go after at least here ....there must be a similar agency for B.C.
The other thing is , buyers have to do their homework on a prospective deal . Personally I wouldn't buy online without seeing the vehicle . If I couldn't afford to fly out there , I wouldn't buy it . Pictures , as has been described , aren't conclusive . We are in an age that is ripe for scam artists .
Wow that sucks I have lots of friends in that area anyone need something looked at just give a holler! We need to help each other and being a member on this forom this should never happen.Heck we even got a buddy in australia!!

T
Ya, I pay them every year too. The thing is, it depends on how many cars he sells every year, as to if he needs a dealers licence or not. Here in Ontario, it used to be that if you sold less than 6 cars/year, a licence wasn't required. Don't know if that's changed or not.
The best way to deal with these jokers is to pay them a visit, and take them out behind the barn, and teach them that it isn't nice to screw people over. Anybody up for a relaxing drive to the wet coast & back??

Guy next door to me buys and sells mostly 60's cars , just under the max allowable to require a dealer licence ...I think he does 4 , the RIGHT way , buys them , transfers to his own name , pays the correct taxes , safety and e test and then resells . Been doing it for many years . He expects buyers to make an appearance so no misunderstandings although he recently had a New Zealander buy a car ( sent the guy a gazzilion pics )

i am sure that there are lots of members here (myself included) that would like to add new stops to the trip and pay visits to numerous people....
i would add individuals in s.california, and in Hamilton to the list....
Well, if that's the case, why not start in Windsor, work our way up to TO, maybe Ottawa, (politicians), No sense going farther East, (different country), then we'll work our way to the wet coast. and down to Cali. There must be some bad guys in Aridzona, New Mexico etc., then hit Texas, and head for Florida, and up the coast back home. $hit, that means I'll probably need a change of tighty withies, but my T shirt should make it

Here is the British Columbia version of Ontario's OMVIC (Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council).
I am in the car business here in Ontario as well and am also fully licensed through OMVIC and this is wrong on so many levels and is an offense punishable by fines and loss of license, etc. Even in BC.
The link above is BC's version and a complaint needs to be listed with them ASAP so that this scumbag gets exactly what he deserves (inside the law )

There is a lad on the HAMB in Maple Ridge that knows people that can take care of business for you. I forget his name right now. Sumthin' like Chev31? See if he can help you.
BBB Business Reviews may not be reproduced for sales or promotional purposes.
BBB Accreditation
CAT Restorations is not BBB Accredited.
Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation.
To be accredited by BBB, a business must apply for accreditation and BBB must determine that the business meets BBB accreditation standards, which include a commitment to make a good faith effort to resolve any consumer complaints. BBB Accredited Businesses must pay a fee for accreditation review/monitoring and for support of BBB services to the public.
That will work only if he is a licenced dealer; same as here.
Fatchuk
We belong to the BBB, but are going to drop them, cuz they're a joke. If someone has a complaint against you, all you need to do is contact them. Doesn't mean you will or need to repair the problem, just contact them. Most companies - including ourselves - join the BBB & Chamber of Commerce to give you credibility, as far as the consumer is concerned.

No worry about loosing a licence you don't have . Also curbers won't change the ownership into there name averting the tax and the number of cars you can sell per year
shame on the fella in BC for doing OUR hobby a dis-service. 100% in agreement and thanks for sharing the info.
I think I saw a help wanted ad for the same place a while back?
BUT At the same time, remember the old saying "when you point the finger at someone you have three pointing back at yourself":
1-fly out and see it yourself
2-pay the money to have an independent appraiser to evaluate the condition
3- if you can't/won't do either of those things than walk away or accept the consequences of YOUR own actions. I have very little empathy for those that do this to themselves, sorry but seems like basic street smarts to me.
It's called personal responsibility . Something that seems to be lost now a days and the reason for many of the problems we have.
That will work only if he is a licenced dealer; same as here.
Agreed, but there is at least the form for reporting "CURBERS".
My opinion is: The more reports against them, then maybe that will "prevent" them from ever going "legit" and acquiring a license....I've seen it a few times where "small time" car sales guys go down the wrong path for so long, then decide to go legit (as far as license) to increase business, but they are still the same type of business person, just hiding more in plain sight....still a crook though in my opinion.
Hope it works out for whoever was taken by this scumbag and I hope he gets his due justice.
Hello I live in Chilliwack very near this lowlife I had a friend ask me to look at a 70 roadrunner for him that was for sale at cat restorations when we got there I Was a little worried just looking at the dump one Quonset hut type shop with and a gravel lot with a few scattered wrecks when we asked to look at the roadrunner he answered with, are you a serious buyers with a tone I cant even describe [almost like he didnt want to show anyone the car in person stating i sell most cars online] he finnally finds a key for the compound and lets us in and I immediately notice a crappy fit on the hood and spoiler and that have differnt paint history from the car he didnt want to put a battery in it to start it and as soon as we did I knew why, i then took a pic of the fender tag and said i would decode it later he get pissed off and within one min. of opening the hood in a pissed of voice he asks "are you going to buy it or not!"..NOT got home and decoder says its a satalite that he put a RR hood and spoiler and decals on beware this low life and spread the word
Thanks for the update , still can't believe they haven't found this asshat dead with a tailpipe rammed up his hoop . Seams auto trader still supports ripping off the people that buy there junk mag.
You know....."if it is too good to be true...."
it's a scam
