The gas gauge on the wagon quit a while ago so I picked up a Ford brass float and changed it to night. The old float has gas in it. The gauge moved to about 1/4 so lets hope when I fill it up it will be accurate. Many GM/ Chrysler and Fords use the same float. COAZ-9202-B.
ur gauge sender is just a resistance coil, ur gauge is an ohm meter, if it worked before it has to work unless you damaged the coil. you should verify that emtpy on the gauge is true empty in your tank, my buick runs out of gas when theres a bit above the empty.
There is also a voltage regulator on the back of the dash which cut's down the 12 volts supplied to the fuel sending unit and also the oil sender and water temp sender. somtimes these can cause problems as well. My 64 ford would not show full even when full till I changed out the regulator
Filled the wagon up and now it reads almost full. I checked the ohms on the sender when it was out, from empty to full and it is within the resistance of the factory chevy spec's, so the only thing to do is bend the arm down to get a higher gauge reading, but as long as the gauge goes down when I drive I am happy.
