well folks my number is finally up, after 12 years of towing dirty the moe nailed me on wednesday. just so you all know they are doing blitzes in the evening a nd weekends. anyways if there is irony they were setup at the entrance of my street, they saw me drive by and they reeled me in. the moe dude was pretty good though, he was decent and not a prick. then things got interesting. this fellow seemed confused and hesitant and didnt know what he was looking at. he barraged me with questions but i played rather dumb and i didnt give him anything. in the end he didnt fine me and told me i had to either install an air pump and egr valve or cats. he felt cats were better and he gave me my out, if install cats my truck will be compliant. so i have till oct 22 to install cats and prove i did. this encounter would seem to verify the claim that the moe has been told to ease up on the brutal enforcement, hence this person could have fined me and pulled my plates but instead went easy on me. score one for the good guys
So what year is your truck? Do you think the officer was confused on the rules? Or will you be compliant just with the cats? Who do you need to take your truck to for the cat installation inspection?

thats the best part of this, the inspector couldnt identify the year of my engine, my truck is a 1976. once i attend court and prove i installed cats i will be compliant.

I think that trucks (pick-ups) only started using cats in 1979. In 1978 the fastest production vehicle that year was the Dodge Little Red Express with a 360 engine. It was even faster that the Corvette because it wasn't bogged down with emission controls.
my truck even in 76 didnt have cats, gm was the first domestic manufacturer to install cats. the moe fellow had the info on my truck, i asked him how he knew what my truck came with, he replied he had a database, i said can the public access this database, he said no. i then said that finding this info is almost impossible, he said go to the manufacturer. i know for a fact that chrysler doesnt have info much past 1980, he agreed its harder to find info on the older stuff. i think this is one of the reasons he let me go
1977 GMC 1/2 ton short box stepside, 350 engine and truck 4 speed (Bull low and 3 speed) bought it new and it had a single cat. Can't remember if it had an EGR though. Had the vac operated heat riser (that seized up like all of the others did.)

They drive Crown Victorias and GM SUVs. They look almost identical to the MTO guys except the logo on the door is different and the stripe is blue instead of green.
They use Crown Vic's, Tahoes and Subs, Impalas and yes- motorcycles too. They have 'ghost cars' with colour keyed decals but most are marked with side full length colour decals, they have Environmental Enforcement across the back. From the front you can't tell what the vehicle is, which doesn't do us any good because that'll be the end we will likely see first, ugh.
Had some guys in the parking lot beside the shop today in what looked like a Jimmie or a Blazer didn't get a good look but it was a 4x4 with a what almost looked like the RCMP logo on the doors .Could have been natural resorseas or the MOE as they were parked where the MOE suburban usually sits when they are fishing for revinue.The local cops were doing a seatbelt/cellphone check accross the road for awhile as well so I really got to see my tax dollars in action today.Felt very safe and secure all day.
