What Springs?

I just swapped my cam and know its a good idea to match the springs. I put in crane 100072 a 284 advertised. My cam card tells me I need 99848-16 and there web site tells me 96802-16 there tech tells me the difference is the installed height. I'm pretty sure that I need something the same or close for the height of the springs in it now to not use shims. How do I meaure the installed height with the base of the spring sunk in the head? They are 461 castings with guides n screw in studs, double springs in it now but not sure what they are. How can I figure this out? Should I use cranes springs or do you suggest another brand? Your thoughts are appreciated thanks.

You need a valve spring micrometer to measure the install height....Normally you need to go by what the cam compnay calls for, however you have to consider what the installed height is and if the spring they recomend does not work you need to find a spring with the seat presure and open pressure recomended that will work with your installed height...

I used a snap gauge and micrometer to measure installed height. Also a dial vernier can be used if it fits in the space.
