I saw the pics on another forum. The discussion was revolving around, how do cars like this pass safety inspections?.Now knowing that the owner of this is a mechanic, I imagine the car is safe, good brakes etc, but just looks this way on purpose, to get a reaction. However, there is still the matter of fenders, bumpers etc....all part of being road worthy in this province.
I think I saw it at Dom's auto wreckers !! Seriously though, it's no wonder they're clamping down on **** going down the road . I can see the artistic value, but I would be pissed if one of those pieces fell off and went through my windshield. Maybe it's safe, maybe it's not !! This "Rat Rod" craze that came in a few years ago, was pretty cool because most of those cars were built by guys that have been around cars for many years and have mechanical knowledge. A lot of the stuff being built now is done by guys dragging a rotted piece of junk from the field, and because they own a "flux cored Mig welder" that was bought from Princess Auto, these guys think they are Chip Foose.
from what i read on the mto site, bumpers are not required but fenders are, that not driving in the rain bit is a myth. people are getting away with no fender driving. in any event this car is pretty tossed together, i doubt it would pass a roadside inspection
Without pretending I know wether or not it would pass a safety, I dig these rods. It shows ingenuity on a budget. Sure it gets the look-at-me-factor, but don't we all expect that with each of our rides? I totally agree that a cobbled together jalopy does shed a bad light on the hobby as a whole, but if its safe and legal, let er go baby!! I don't think any of these builders want stuff falling off their cars anymore than anyone wants to be hit by said parts. Again, I love these rods, just make em safe.

the gasser one i liked its cool . like a relic from times past drag way . the other , I,m not too too fussy about the rat rods , maybe because its cause I dont really remember seeing any cars like that , or the bobber styles , around . But I remember seeing cars like the chebby . The ones that really turn me off are the ones where it looks like you could get your arm caught in the back tires if you arent careful ..77.

The cars I remember from as Fatstax and The Boy say ,back in the day, maybe weren't finished, but they weren't built with welded wrenches or made out of manure spreders.Interiors maybe weren't finished but they tried. I think someware along the way people got confused between art cars and hot rods. The rat rods were simply cars that weren't finished yet ,you know kind of ratty looking but safe, just not finished yet. Then the shiney guys got kind of stuck up and wouldn't let the ratty ones in so they said screw it, it is finished, its the way I like it and a new class was born.Traditional rods are just what the name suggests rods built the way they used to build complete with nothing but old parts, still no welded wrenches, just stuff that was available in the period the car represents.I have nothing against art cars ,some of them are really interesting and show inginunity, and a lot of building skills but they aren't realy rat rods or traditional rods in the true sense of the style,at least thats the way I remember it ,kinda ,I think ,what were we talking about again. There are a few Princess Auto parts on that one I can see!

I'm not a fan of rats for the most part, but this one has a cool stance from the rear. Aside from that, I've seen many vids on youtube lately. I cant believe the prime material that gets cut up to make a LOT of P.O.S that are fugly, sound bad and nothing but hell to drive.
I get the fact that you can build them for much less and you dont have to wash them - but at the end of the day...they are still junk. The craze has gone too far IMO and I cant wait until it fades into history like the late 70's disco paint jobs and early 80's "street machine" craze did.
Give me drivable, sharp looking, classic lines any day...that is something that will never go out of style.
