I might as well make a thread for this as I hope to have time to move it into the garage this weekend as I picked up a shelter for my Mazda.

Progress so far

Parts came for the front end

Im also looking for headlight buckets that are very long bullet style ones like a 38ish Chev, hopefully something longer if they do exist. If not I may take a stab at making a pair. I am slo looking for a pre emissions v8 with tranny, not sure what yet.

I called the mto a few minutes ago, figured I might as well ask before heading there with my girlfriend to switch her plates.

I explained what it was, it was as-is, for parts. I need an appraisal (worth more than the truck at this point)

This should be interesting.

I bought my truck in sort of the same condition as yours....I went to the license office with the ownership and bill of sale ($250) and got it put into my name as unfit. A month or so later, MTO sent me a letter disputing what I paid for it, wanting more tax I guess. I sent them this picture and explained that it had no drivetrain etc.....They sent my picture back and I never heard back from them. A year or so later, I got my safety check and plates

Started to pull it apart a bit more. I figure all I will be using is the front axle, shock mounts and cab.

It could of been rhd?

It seems I have to flip the knuckles on the axle to put the linkages out front? What other steering box can I use for side steer thats common? I plan to buy a shorter column blank to fit better and it seems the original box and column are meant to be 1 piece.

Also will be doing a disc conversion for better braking and to change the bolt pattern to match the rear.

Its not a parts truck. I just want it in my name.

Better to get it appraised now as they obviously want me to pay tax on this....

Harry, I had the same problem with my 38 Chev yrs. ago Got the same letter sent them pics, never heard back & never got the pic ture back!!!! Skar, be perpared to spend!!!!  What ever you plan on it will be 3 times as much or more!! I still say it's best to find a "driver" thats in reasonably good shape then "TWEAK" it to what you want!!!  You won't have to wait 3 to 5 yrs. & it won't cost you any where near what your going to have to put into THAT!!!  Believe me I know i just finished a 3 yr. job that just got worse & worse as I got into it. Yes it was a experience, but I should have started with something BETTER even though it didn't look to bad I;ll try & post some of it starting with what I 1st. saw. These are just a few & fortunately I was able to finish this BUT I have way more than i planned on spending, & if I was to sell it , I'd take a real BAD BATH!!!!Picture 007.jpgPicture 023.jpgPicture 058.jpgPicture 065.jpgPicture 148.jpgPicture 237.jpgPicture 240.jpg

Picked up these wheels for almost free today.

Washed off, the barrels will clean up almost perfect.

I got them at a going out of business sale.......

I got a really good deal anyways, considering my pink wheels on my Mazda were about $200 a wheel which is a lot for a young person such as myself.

I have a bit of time where its going to look like this. I understand not wanting to pay tax on everything I have already paid tax on. Probably next spring or summer I will get it appraised.

Skar, it's best to get in your name "unfit' ASAP I've known a few guys that never did that till they were ready to get it on the road & you could hear the screams as they had to pay the tax on the finished product, yelling they 'only paid $ 600 or $700 bucks 4 yrs ago for it but got "nailed" on the appraisil of the car "DONE"

as for the appraisal i don't think you need a full-on appraisal as for insurance. i have been told a lic mech can sign one with his number on it. pete is right about getting it done now though. for easy math, i sold a roller road/r to a guy for a 100.00. he spent 2-3 years before switching the tag and had to appraise and got hit at a 5000.00 level of tax. needless to say he flipped. poor prick. get-ur-done.
as for the power have you figured out what you are doing. i have a 64 390 and tranny that was running when it came out if interested around here somewhere. please put ford power into it after all the effort you are going to have in this project. just me.

It will stay Ford. I will get the cab appraised before doing too much to it as well, im sure I have a lot of time before then anyways.

Im going with hopefully one of the 460's I have already, just have to save up for parts.

I can get tie rod ends that go 1" lower to maybe clear the spring, or I can make a tie rod that goes right between the spring and the frame.

I don't want to flip the spindles to have everything in front.

Suggestions?

I plan on getting the batwing brackets fitting nicely, clean up the i beam and take it somewhere to have them welded on.

Adslow was kind enough to deliver the 305 he was selling.

1233327_10151686512208473_111066400_n.jpg

I think ive found a good (cheap) th350 to go behind it which I will try to pick-up this Friday.

Today I acquired a set of rear wheels and tires, of course not dot approved but I couldn't resist. Good enough for mock-up anyways.

1186132_10151693304968473_1629586770_n.jpg

Next will be finding a rear end that isn't going to be too wide with such low offset wheels and the fenderless box.

too bad for me he wasnt "kind enough" to give the first person who expressed interest in the engine the chance to either refuse it or buy it. confusedisbelief
