Gauge size

Hello

I am looking at installing a Tachometer gauge in the location of the clock on my dash (49 ford club coupe)  I am having trouble figuring out what size gauge I would need to fit in the 2 3/4" hole.  Any ideas???  I cant seem to figure this out

For a tach, you will likely have to open that hole up a bit. Most tachs are larger than the other gauges that are either 2" or 2 5/8"

Or use a smaller tack & a filler plate to reduce the dash hole size!!!!

I once had this same problem with a 7/8" dia hole in my firewall. Who would have thought that a 7/8" dia plug fit the hole perfectly. I tried using a 1/2 plug with some silicone, but the plug fell right through the hole. I then tried to trim down a 1" plug but cut my finger in the process and needed stitches. Someone recommended a 7/8" plug, and to my amazement, it fit. I now have no more leaks in my firewall, but I wish my finger healed with a scar.

Thanks Jazz for finding that.

I dont see the typical hook up on the back of that gauge. Of course I haven't seen the backs of many. Well I guess I have lots to think about still on my hot rod lol that is what the winter months are for!

427CARL I was only going to go that route if all else fails. I have a broken clock and I thought it would look neat to have a tach there. That and who ever is driving with me can watch the gauge too.

I was at the store today with a measuring tape. I found a Tach that I think might work. When I get a chance I will see if I can make it fit/work. Fingers crossed!!! wish me luck!!!
