Suggestions on how to make retro look work on an 87 chevy pickup?

Trying to finish my '87 chevy shortbox and wondering how to give it a cool look with 50'-60's a flavor. These trucks are pretty plain and I dont want another "black, slightly lowered shortbox"

I thought about the possibility of airbrusing trim on the side to make it look like this 60's chev pickup I see around town - my fave truck of all time... (talking about the chrome on the beltline and the trim up the corner of the cab.) but wonder if it would look stupid. The truck I'm talking about is in the attached image.

I like the old speed shop truck look too (think 60's pickup, flat black, red steel rims, faded speed shop logo) but feel this truck is too new for that to work?

Open to suggestions here - want to keep the body stock btw

my computer is hooked directly to a Alien spaceship

I beam the smaller photo up, and they send the larger one back

Cost is 4 roachmars per picture  (about 4 cents)

There was one around Ottawa this summer lowered shaved chrome reverse wheels wide white tires and a few other clean mods. I liked it but did hear a lot of guys whining about if the guy wanted a 50s car why did he not just buy one. Dare to be different doesn't cut it with the kool crowd.

Thing is I dont have room for extra toys. I'll eventually build a 60's truck similar to the photo I posted, but in the meantime my '87 will be the parts chaser while I build/restore a smaller classic car or street rod.

Thanks guys - I'm just looking to make it a little different than every other 80's shorty I see. Nothing crazy...just a bit of retro without looking stupid.

Yep-what he said-but you'll still need to lower it a bit. a wheel option could be chrome reverse

I'm going to lower it a bit, but not slammed. I need this truck to still be just that...a truck.

I like the striping and steelies idea - not sure what a belflower paint job is
