It appears that the meeting, hosted by the SVAO, with the 2 gentlemen from the M.O.E. was a good idea. It is also quite evident that many people are unhappy that we did not get a stamp with EXEMPT applied to the ownership of our cars. One of the comments made after the meeting, which was when I got there, was that the emissions program is the way it is because the the Ministry of the Environment has the public behind them, to keep our air breathable. I suggested the public might change their perspective if the public was made aware of how much it costs.
The point was raised that the public is not likely to support our vintage vehicles being held to a lower or exempt standard of exhaust emissions. Good point. This leads to "Why are Canadians paying excessive taxes when Billion$ are being sent to countries that have no or low emissions programs?" And recognizing that far too many $$$ are simply being waste on buying votes from tree huggers, newly immigrated Canadians and new young voters that have no concept of reality. Green, the collar of money, is good for business (taxes). While we, the average working guys (working poor and tax laden middle class) are carrying the load.
We, the members of this website, need to come to an agreement to what we stand for. Here is a program we should be able to agree to and stand for, and, will gather public support;
1) Vehicles, that the Ontario Government no longer requires to be Drive Clean tested, 1987 and older, no longer subject to component inspection and fines.
2) New built replica vehicles must pass emission standards in place for the engine when it was in it's original application. No Component compliance inspection required, how it passes is owner's choice.
3) Crate, and re-manufactured* engines subject to "VEHICLE that it is installed in" year compliance. * Government of Ontario has definition of re-manufactured in Motor Vehicle Repair Act.
These are my suggestions. This is only going to get better if we get started. People, in areas that are not currently tested, need to get involved before this entire situation is jammed down your throats.
If we can agree to a position, then we forward it to SVAO and support their efforts for our hobby. Join SVAO and join SEMASAN. SEMASAN will get involved if we join and keep them informed.
Let's come to some sort of agreement on this by Christmas and get this moved forward. If another meeting gets set up with M.O.E. make plans to attend. That meeting will be learning where we stand now. It should also give you a chance to join SVAO and give them your 10 Bucks.
See you Sunday at International Centre Flea Market, I will be selling Old Skool Rodz & Car Kulture Deluxe magazines. Be pleased to meet you.

I agree with you Rick, but wouldnt that be to easy. But on the other hand maybe that is the input they need. Perhaps they do not how to adress as it is not something they deal with on a regular basis. Our input and suggestions may just help
We as a group need to persuade the public old car people do good for the community. If we could add up all the donations given to charities every summer by car clubs the public might think we are not all bad.

I did not attend the MOE meeting in Claremont although I have read that the MOE claimed (at that meeting) that they are not targeting old cars. Showing up to the meeting and claiming "well I heard they were" without an actual witness to the MOE targeting old cars would have been pointless.
I would like to draw your attention to the quote below, taken from page 8 of the "emmissions on older cars" post on this site.
The poster states: (start of quote) "They were at the local car show here in toronto giving out $365 fines for not having the heat stove connected on aircleaners. They obviously don't care that the heat stove is inactive during the warmer monthes anyways. Watched them do it to at least three people, but by then everyone else was closing their hood and leaving the show." (end of quote)
This is an apparent eyewitness account of the MOE doing exactly that. Too bad this poster wasn't at the meeting to debunk the MOE's claim of "we are not targeting old cars".

Did you really think it would be any different?
Doe's anyone really believe what a government official says, when trying to placate a private citizen?
I just thought it would have been interesting if, after the MOE's statement (at the meeting) claiming they are not targeting vintage cars, an actual eyewitness would have stood up and stated an exact location and date that the MOE actually DID target car show participants.
Was the meeting going to change anything .... hell no. But it sure would have been nice to call them on some of the BS they were presenting there, if and only if we had an actual eyewitness or verifiable facts (copies of the actual tickets). Unfortunately my post asking for the location of that show and the years of the vehicles he claims to have seen ticketed was left unanswered ...

I could have went and stood up to mention I was targeted 1/10 of a mile from the cruise night. I would then have to admit that I didn't get a ticket. Then they would have asked what I was complaining about..... They then could have said to the room, if this fella can comply, what's stopping the rest of you?

Strength in numbers fellas. Squeaky wheels get the grease. Whatever saying you want to use, we have to stand up in numbers and speak out. All the bitching in the world won't help after the fact.
Your suggestions are a great start Rick. Count me in.
