Hey Atom, you got a Hortons in Newcastle thats all we need to start. This isn't supposed to be complicated. We go see you,you come see us, we all go to Oshawa or Peterborough ,Port Perry or where ever cruse the main drag a coupla times shoot the breezs with the local rodders then go home .Simple and were not sitting in a parking lot .You can even bring Hemi and his shiney magazine featured ,Tshirt appearing Mopar, see how open to any ideas this is.Molton could gather a few Coasters.Fatstax and I talked with guys from Motor City and The Oshawa Aces at Pugsys metal shaping event and they seamed interested.Thats a lot of guys ,Now add the independants and riders. Like I said thats a large group. Now subtract the ones who are in as long as someone else does the work and the ones who say it sounds great but don't show and you still have a large group of car guys who want to cruze anyware. It could be a monthley thing at a different town or interesting museum or zoo or park.I would still like to get some kind of car guy lazey Olimpics going, you know pool or hamberger eating, chugging(pop of course)or whatever. We could keep track of points for events and at the end of the season give a useless gift to the winning club. There are lots of clubs and independents around the west side of the big smoke so maybe some are interested. The Ratlers are going to do something this year,so I hope others might join in.We are not interested in starting some kind of huge club ,or organization,we just want to have some fun this summer. Ed
Cool, we have one from Newcastle,we may fill the Timmies lot yet.Hemi,ya must have known I couldn't let the auto trader thing go even, though I thought it was funny. Ed
Sounds like a good time Flatblack, I would be in for that (If I can get my truck running). Sounds a lot better than sitting around at car park doing nothing.

LOL !! Yeah sometimes I don't know where I come up with this crap !! I don't know if you and Fatstax really want me to show up?? You may get to know me and actually start to like me !!
Strange things do happen ,I was looking at the delivery and some of the flatblack had rubed smooth and was ,now get this, shiney.Might be a sign of the apocalypse. Ed
Great shot Rochie. When was that done? Can't believe you got all those guys standin still long enough for the pic?
This was taken last July with my camera with Sandra at the trigger. It was an impromptu event for a couple of out of town guests on a Tuesday evening if I'm not mistaken.
It's the happenings such as these that make it all worth while and while I'm not a full fledged member, Mark tells me I'm an honorary one...and I'm just honored to be a small part of it!
Hey Steve......if I said "honorary" member you know I really meant "full" member...lol......I believe you even have one of those rare ELTA Disciples of Speed Shirts to prove the fact.....lol......great to have you as a club brother.........your camera work always makes us ugly lads look good....lol.

I'm a member of the NRMCC (Niagara Region Maverick Comet Car Club) which is based in Southern Ontario.
Also a member of the R&A Classics car shows club which does a bunch of car shows and cruises in Brampton and the surrounding areas. Their cruise is every Sunday in Brampton at the Canadian Tire at Mc Laughlin and Bovaird........... 5-8 p.m. A cool bunch of guys.
I also belong to the King Comet Maverick Car Club, a very small club with very few members and no members with any '60 to '69 Comets, only because none seem to want to join. Odd really as a 60's Comet is as much of a Comet as a 70's Comet. Maybe the 60's Comet guys don't like the 70's Comet guys?
Either way, i really do love the car clubs and all they stand for. It gets the boys (and gals) out of the house and gets them together. You can't really beat that, eh.

I belong to the "Country Car Club" thats been around since the 60's or so?? I joined in the 70's & we put on the "RODDERS WKND. car show in Cannington Ont. this started out as a 3 day show. then slowly we got it down to a Sun. show & it was re-named "The Cannington" Car Show.Averaged about 275 to 350 cars on a good turn out. We finally had to drop the show as the regulations from Durham Health Dept.[ chip truck lic. the # of washrooms per people there etc] Insurance costs & regulations,[No more tug of War games etc.] & the costs involved in renting the park & & arena "JUST KILLED US"!! We once had close to 20 members & now we have about 8 to 10 active members, that still come to mthly. meetings. More of a social meeting & have a beer, shoot the $hit as we don't have the show to contend with, or the headaches!!!
That was my favorite car show as a kid...the Canoe Race and the games were always amazing! The people that ran it were always super cool....Will always be one of my favorite memories of what a car show should be.
I found it very interesting the comments of Chris58 with respect to local Brant County car clubs. The specific reference to the Blue Angels Car Club was of great interest. I remember back in about 1965 or 1966 that my cousin and myself found what we thought was the club house of the Blue Angels at the intersection of Bethel Church Road and Bishopgate Road. That was roughly 48 years ago and he is long gone so I have no person to reference this with. I sort of always thought it was part of my imagination that this club actually did exist as I have never heard anyone refer to it locally. I did know a number of people from the Camtwisters and the Millmasters Clubs which were also local. Its unfortunate none of these other clubs have been resurrected and that there is only one club that has been brought back after it disappeared for a few years. Doug.
Hey Doug....just for your FYI......a few of the old guard from the Cam Twisters and Mill Masters are now members of the Piston Pushers and are still very active in the hot rod scene. Our London Club (E.L.T.A.) is very fortunate to have Mill Master and Cam Twister stuff adorning our shop walls, our way of keeping those clubs memories/history alive and well.

We are a group of friends who enjoy attending car shows and cruise nights in and around the Ottawa, Ontario area together. We have a wide variety of motor vehicles represented in our club so far.

you guys do it right, your corner of the grass at M&M on fri nights seems to grow every week. I was parked in front of your group last night and it was talked about a couple times. Looks like a good group of guys and gals.
What the hell is an internet car club. What restaurant or donught shop do you meet at,when do you get together to wrench on each others cars,do you leave the chatroom together to cruse to a race or show,Not shure an internet site qualifies as a club,at least not in my books .Fun to converse with people from around the province that I wouldn't normally have the opertunity to meet and share experinces and ideas with.Nice to send messages back and forth and find out what is going on about laws and regulations , but an actual car club allows actual talking ,sarcasm and banter that would be mistaken for rudness on line .I like the web sites but you can't beat bench racing and BSin with other club members at a drag strip or on the road to some show, swap meet or other clubs event
Living in a more remote area....and predominately a male oriented interest.....this is a great way for me to get lots of information and ideas.
I don't have the opportunity that many of you do to "get together face to face", work on stuff together, ect.
But I have met some from this forum that I now call friends that I would not have if not for joining here. If I have the opportunity to meet more in person, I sure will.
I think these types of forums will become the new "traditional" way to get into car clubs . Cant join if ya don't know about it.
When Dave was moving here to Ontario......he asked for help finding a house, a truck ect. and got it pretty quickly. I think its great. I've asked for information and got it graciously.
I've seen fellow rodders looking for parts and all number of things and got them for a great deal or sometimes for free. Cant ask for better then that.
As far as sarcasm and banter.....I think it gets conveyed pretty well here Most take it for how it is meant. If people come off as rude here......they are most likely that way in person. But nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Not a "traditional " car club..... but pretty great non the less.

Just my humble opinion.

Great take on the subject Janice. I like the personalities of the people in Clubs and what they can do for each other and the community, but it IS a different world now. Hell, look at what's happened to the Traditional Swap Meets...all but replaced by E-bay and Kijiji. With couriers buzzin all over the place now, competing for business, you can get parts shipped to your house cheaper than paying admission to Barrie plus food and gas. Saying that, I still prefer the swap meets. You can't replace people...good and bad.

I joined the Galt Strokers in 1961.They along with the Piston Pushers and several other clubs put together Kohler Drag Strip (now Toronto Dragway). It was a tight knit group and it took 3 months to gain membership, if you were lucky. They weren’t snobs, just wanted ‘car’ people. In ’67 I married and moved away.Hated to leave that club. Many good cars came out of there. The Strokers lost their building in the 70’s and went dormant until 2003 when a 50th reunion was planned. An active social club has grown out of that and I am still a member. In 1987, I moved back to the area and joined the Surchers of Hornby.Another great group of guys into building and participating in car events. The Surchers still exist, but the club house has become a store room, nothing but weekly meetings.I was living in the Scarborough area when the idea of a new club was suggested, I jumped on board and the East Enders Car Club was born.It turned out this club was all about rules and membership (read $) and fizzled after a couple of years.Thank God.Knowing the guys from the Back Alley Cruisers, I hooked up with them and really enjoyed their attitude. No dues, no hierarchy and no rules except don’t embarrass the club.A great attitude, tour together and just about fun.I now live in Prince Edward County and have decided to take a leave from car clubs. There are lots of great car people here and if you need help, they are available, but no need to be a club member.I post on 5 or six car related web sites, I attend several cruises a week, I go to annual events such as Syracuse, Woodward and Gasser Meets at Beaver Springs; I have an amazing garage where I am building a tribute to the ‘Village Idiot’, a car I raced in the 60’s.There are other projects in the wings, but I will do these outside a club, their rules and constraints.

Hey Wuga.....great pictures and the Strokers are certainly one of those original clubs of Ontario going back to 1954........had the pleasure of running into your old club brother Al Howlett....great guy and looks very good for 80+.....lol. I'll be looking forward to seeing the tribute car "Village Idiot"......that was a cool ride....I'm lucky to say I have an old black &white of the orginal plus I also have a Galt Stroker shirt hanging in our ELTA Club shop.......any more vintage pictures would be great to see....thanks again for sharring your hot rod history.
Probably not what you had in mind, but I'll throw this one out there. I've just recently started the website for my club, with a lot of help from Poncho. There's a few links in there, which is info that will eventually be transferred to the forum itself. This year is the club's 35th anniversary.
I am bumping this thred to find a little information. If possible I would like to hear from any active clubs and find out about there interests, social, meetings, membership limits, cutoff dates or requirements for cars(cutoff years,on the road, race cars),are there any events that are a manditory for membership in your club. Are the members active in dragracing, custom car shows, does your club put on a event of any kind and is it successful in both attendence and participation of your members for planning, preperations and cleanup.I would also like to see if we can maybe utilize the events calander to cooridinate activities so we aren't conflicting any other clubs dates. What if anything does your club do during the winter months, meetings, coffee shops, burlesque parlors, indoor shows, swapmeets, pool halls, club builds.Just interested in whats going on in other clubs in other areas. The Ratlers just had there first official meeting(at least one not at a show or drag race event) and the guys all brought up interesting ideas of what they want from the club and what direction we should maybe go so looks like we are evolving. Ed
I am far to poor, and my rides are far to new to be asked to join a club. You can take the hotrod away from me but not out of me. Being sick don't help either.
I will say.....having worked for Steve Plunkett, having toured Jay Lenos garage, Seen TimAllens. I been around some world clas autos in my lifetime...but bar none the E.L.T.A is the ultimate mancave hands down.
Great shop. Great bunch of people. Great alma mater.
At the last bash and was my first, my wife looked at me as I walked in and she said..."You would live here wouldn't you?"....Its the coolest garage I ever been to. Its as real as it gets for gear heads.
As I respect my friend Steve and his colletion, Jays garage...but this place is for gear heads.
Tim Allen would be grunting the whole time....RRR
Ghost post,
all I can say is WOW!!! On behalf of all my ELTA brothers, I just want to say Thank You for the compliment. We try hard to keep it real around here. When you come down for the 10th make sure you introduce yourself to us or at least me, OK???
Steves garages are uber cool. the 31 car probaby replicates more of what us car guys would say a garage is based on signage. The auto salon is a museum, works of art. Jays garage, he has 10 garages housing his 200+ car collection and 250+ bike collection. With wall art the size of double garage doors commissioned by him. Its uber cool. And his 11th building which is the shop, houses 8 full time staff, a gourmet kitchen, 5 cars in restoration at any given time,hoists,3d printers, magicians who have forgotten more in 10 min than most of us will learn in our lifetimes and an endless supply of funds for parts and labour.
ELTA is a bunch of gear heads who put their heads together build stuff, love nostalgia and going fast. As going to Jays and working for my friend is a once in a life time opportunity yes granted and so cool i like sharing the story(not bragging) but its a fact the ELTA represents what most car guys/gals,gear heads whatever ya wanna call us the true spirit of hotrodding. Where most of us save, work hard, buy/sell/trade parts, borrow stuff, to get what we got.
I have the utmost respect for Steve as a personal friend and Jay who writes more cancer checks than his car collection per year but its us gear heads at places like this that make the hobby obtainable by the blue collar worker.
I myself, only will live vicariously through my sons hobby because of my health but thats ok.
Yes I been fortunate to have seen some cars that are only 1 offs on the planet.(Steves and The Vault in the Peterson Museum) Met the most famous and best car guys and builders on the planet. But Id hang with you guys anyday.
I remember as a teenager seeing Fast Elvis 55 drooling over the car. Now in my 40s. I still do. 1 of my dream cars.
Im just very blessed to be here and have experienced what I have so far with some truthful stories to share.
Keep up the great work.
I'm a founding member of the Sock F*ckers Car Club. We started with 5 guys when I lived in Atlanta and we've grown very slowly to 16 members spread across various cities and countries. We chose the name because A) we work on our own cars, and B) it would be impossible for people to think we take ourselves seriously. There are no rules, no dues, no meetings, no hierarchy. Friends first, then cars. Some guys are into customs, some are into hot rods, some are projects and lots are on the road. There are no pre-requisites, other than no club plaque gets hung on anything newer than '63. We have a club Chassis Research FED hauled by a '48 Ford sedan delivery, a club soapbox derby car, and we're kicking around the idea of building a Bonneville belly tank. We get together as a club once a year, and get groups together as often as possible. Everyone has family and work priorities, there are no penalties for missing an event. It's a car club not a gang. It's a helluva lot of fun, that's it.
Looks like the SFCC are all about the fun factor. Mirrored it seems by our very own ELTA group - same 'no dues', 'no penalties', 'no attitudes' and 'no BS'. 'Zactly like it should be!!!

Hence the name: "Our Own Fxxxxxx Car Club"! The name has since been changed to "Our Own 'FAMILY' Car Club"....to anyone that asks about the acronym anyways.

Well, you first have to look at the date when all this happened. Probably more than 30 years ago now. And I'm not going to get into the explanation of what went on. It isn't my story, period...
tread carefully…look at who's there already. Do "you" fit with what's going on??? If your a trailer queen and they are hard core racers …do you "belong" in the mix??? Look for something that fits YOU as well. I never decided to join the ELTA…I was conscripted… I'm not a "joiner" kinda guy ( why would I join a club that would have Me), but the best move I have made in a long while was to accept the invitation from the boys. I don't think they really knew what they were getting with me ( sometimes I can be a real PAIN), but we seem to be getting along rather nicely.
We're even talking about a couple of tricks we have up our collective sleeves for next year, so I guess I can hang around at least for another year!
Two clubs in my lifetime and NEVER had a better time.
Its not only what the club offers, the other question is what do you bring to a club. Some clubs are active and go to lots of events others, are race only, some put on an event themselves, others are big on working on eachothers cars, some are hard core and have strict rules for attending events and meetings. I think the best way to learn is a hangaround approach. Do you see the same group at most of the events you also attend. If so maybe you could approach them to tagalong for the next event. Don't forget that while you are checking them out they will be doing the same with you. Are you a jump in and help type of guy, or do you always have something else to do that limits the time you can help with club projects. Lots of decisions on both sides to see if you want to join a particular group or if they will accept you as a member. Everybody in this have different levels of needs and comitments.I like the hangaround approach seems to work for everyone. Ed
I will be watching for club window stickers next year... I like the hangaround approach... thanks for the feedback and sorry to take this post off course!
