Just got mine in the mail and nearly had stroke !! Two years ago I was with Whetter & Oakland and was paying $385 for $50000 coverage. Last year, all their customers got shifted to Lant, and my rates went up to $440. I was pissed and complained but stayed with the for the rest of the year. The renewal I got today, they want a whopping $ 764.00 !!!!
Are they for real?? I will be calling another company in Lindsay in the morning which I believe have the same rates that Whetter used to have. I will then call Lant and tell them to take a flying F#@% !!!
I changed vehicle this year, so can't directly compare my rate with last year, value on the new car went up $10k, insurance premium more than doubled. When did deductables go up to 500 on collision and 300 on comprehensive? Never asked for them to be raised. Last time I looked at them when with Lant before they were 100 and 25. At any rate I'll get my appraisal updated and look for a broker that uses RSA, same company Whetter was using.
It seems to be a racket with car insurance ...good drivers pay for bad drivers . I got p.o.ed last year and really shopped around ( almost 50 years driving , zero accidents , 1 ticket in 15 years ) ....Grey Power was the best rate but they wanted your house ins in on the deal and , you guessed it , it was a LOT more . I finally went down to haggle with my current insurance and it worked out ok . What you drive makes a big difference ....4 door a lot cheaper than a 2 door which they consider " sporty " ......gimme a break .
got my renewal from lant, went from around $360 to under $700 for two cars ,went to Zehr today for my pontiac $172. I can't believe lant is still in business.
Yup I am sticking with Echelon too. great rates and excellent service both from my broker and Echelon. Same policy as seeker 1056 other than an agreed value no matter what. I am happy happy happy...lol
Those of you with Echelon say thay have no or very little restrictions but this is their page on Collector Vehicle Ins.
Fully loaded package policy - includes liability, accident benefits, physical damage and much more.
Agreed Value Coverage - all of our policies include the Agreed Value endorsement 19A with a limit of insurance based on the appraised value of your collector vehicle.
Spare Parts coverage - up to $7,500 in coverage.
Competitive Rates - fully loaded package policy and extra money left over for gas.
Occasional Pleasure Use - We know that you want to take your collector vehicle out for a pleasure drive - and it's not a problem. Echelon has you covered.
Coverage available for stock, modern classics, modified and specialty interest collectibles.
What's that bit about pleasure driving??
Is there another catagory I should be asking for?

So far Zehr is the most economical [didn't want to say CHEAPEST] On the 64 appr. at 20 G Zehr came in at $164,Echelon $176 & Vintage $178 On the 52 @25G's Zehr $246,Vintage $266 & Echelon$345 Going to call Lant's & see if they can quote me next yrs Premium. No sense switching now till it runs out in Jan. 2013 Someone I believe said to make sure you notify them when you switch over so as not to get hit with a "non-payment" record that will haunt you down the road

I called Vintage and will be switching with them. Getting car appraised this afternoon because my last one was more than 5 yrs old. My current policy will expire mid January also, but I'm taking care of the paper work now so that there's no screw ups. Vintage will take care of notifying Lant so that the scenario that Pete mentioned doesn't happen. rates will be going from $764 with Lant to $435 with Vintage for 50K coverage.

I'd cover your bases and personally send Lant notification. It's just too easy for a slip-up on one end to cause you grief of some sort. If you send them an email and snailmail, you will at least have the "sent" copy for yourself too ... only reason I state snailmail too is it wouldn't surprise me if a "hardcopy" is required on Lants end. Easy thing to do for some peace of mind. You could send "registered letter" but the last one I sent, Canada Post LOST. Brilliant, make me pay $10 for special service so they can lose it ....

be very careful about notifying your insurance company yourself - some dummy could and will take your call as a cancellation - and if you get cancelled - good luck getting new insurance anywhere else - all they see is "Cancelled" which is permanent death in the insurance world
When I switched my reg. car ins. & house etc. to another co. they notified my old co. was told to let them do it. Then i got a call from old co. wanting to know why?? told them they were too expensive!! they said i should have talked it over & "maybe something could be done" I said "so your ripping me off & now your caught you want to lessen the bill"? It's a good idea to check your ins. about every 3 to 4 yrs as they keep adding on a % of costs that can get out of hand!! My new co. said I might change again after that time & it's normal, if you just sit on it, it keeps going up & up, especially house ins. Pete

Let the new insurance company deal with it!!
Thanks Seeker !! I agree !!
They are in the insurance buisness so I will let them take care of it but I will check to make sure the proper paper work has been done. They have 2 months !! How badly could they screw it up ?? ( as I say that sacastically )
I have Echelon and the rates are good,$155per yr.As for restrictions I cannot use my car for a daily driver or for work, can't take it shopping .Can drive it any day for repairs or testing of repairs or new parts. Can drive for any car related event .I'm happy with the rates, not really happy with the restrictions, but regular ins is a killer if you can even find a regular insurer that will cover a car over 20 yrs old. Ed
See there! I take my rod out occasionally almost every day for either a cruise or a show. In my area, I can go to one every day of the week, if I like. There's that many. And sometimes an occasional drive to the coffee shop. No harm no fowl.
John.
