About this domestic foreign vehicle thing....Which car maker makes the highest percentage of its components in North America. Anyone care to guess which one it is?

Made In USA? A Toyota Is ‘Most American’ Car

“Buy American” has long been a battle cry among some consumers who want to support domestic manufacturing. This is especially so in the car market. But do you know just how American your car is? Globalization of the auto industry with suppliers based around the world makes it increasingly difficult to tell the degree to which vehicles are made in the USA.
So what should you buy if you want to help the domestic car business? A Ford? A Chevy? Try a Toyota or a Honda. According to Cars.com, a consumer information and research site, the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord are number one and two on the list of “most American” vehicles. The Ford Escape, Ford Focus and Chevrolet Malibu complete the top five on the American-Made index. The index ranks vehicles based on the percentage of their parts, based on cost, that are made domestically, where they are assembled and how popular they are among U.S. buyers.

The Camry, which Toyota builds in Georgetown, Ky., and Lafayette, Ind., is in the top spot for the second year in a row. Toyota’s large Tundra pickup, built in San Antonio, Texas, and the Sienna van, from a factory in Princeton, Ind., also made the list. Of the top 10 vehicles on the American Made index, five of them come from Japanese car makers.

While people consider full-size pickup trucks quintessentially American, the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado and MC Sierra missed the list this year. The F-150 is assembled in the U.S. but its proportion of domestic parts fell to 55%. In previous years it had a domestic parts content of around 80 percent, Cars.com says.

The Silverado and Sierra also used to be on the list regularly, but now their production is split between factories in the U.S. and Mexico. The latest models have only about 65% percent of their “content” from the U.S.

How is this sickening?? So the PROFITS go to Japan. What of it??

What you aren't looking at is that the JOBS are on this continent. The level of profit that goes back to another country is insignificant compared to the amount of incomes being generated HERE.

Out of that profit comes R&D costs. Without new designs & product developent, there is nothing new to build and sell here. As for the jobs overseas, you cant begrudge those people from putting food on their tables.

Again, supporting local industries and farmers?? Wonderful. I do the same as much as possible. I buy Canadian made products as much as financially possible, even if it costs me more. (within reason). We buy our produce from a local CSA and as much as we can using the 100 mile radius rule, but cannot buy everything that way. I check labels all the time.

I'm not anti-(insert other country) but rather pro-Canadian

I do recall that the Toyota Sienna had more American content than a Mustang a few years ago. It was also on the "recomended" list from the UAW as one of the cars to purchase. I'm still not falling for it, as it's still a Japanese company.

Hoe about used cars ,does anyone know or have an opinion(thought I would throw that in for fun)as to if there is any economic difference on a used car or truck where it was made.Seams to me same dealers, jobbers ,parts sellers, tecs etc.I don't see a difference except preference ,the money in the used level would seam to stay local or am I missing something. I can't see how used cars original origin could have any impact on the economy. It comes down to local service, jobbers, wreckers, dealers etc.

If you want an full size truck, I'd go with the Ford or Chevy
If you should decide to go with the Dodge be sure to get the heated tailgate
It will keep your hands warm when you have to push it in the winter.
If you want a small truck then I'd go with the Toyota

I told her ....if it broke down...she wouldnt have to wear her mittens to push us to a gas station !!!!!!

FYI....the "Chesterfield" was quite comfortable that night......lmao

You bought it loaded, or bought it because you were loaded??

J/k, sharp looking trucks. My 2nd pick for styling behind GM. Not fond of the F150's barnum and baily/maximum overdrive chrome grill...ugh.

I do like the Ecoboost concept though...IF it works and can last beyond 250k/10 years
