My friend is selling a 283 - was a runner when pulled, but smoked when started. Complete carb to oil pan. I believe it is a 1966 283. Its not stuck and has been stored indoors, in a heated shop in thornhill.
$283
Not trying to start an argument but a 327 crank in a 283 block is NOT a 302, its a 307. The 302 high winding chev is based on a 327 block because of the 4" bore with the short stroke of the 283, I have buit 4 of these motors and they tough, but the 307 is less desirable because of the small bore of the 283. Now the original 307 is a large journal crank that will fit into a 350 block which will yeild 327 cubic inches
A 4" bore 283 is a 301...lol. But they round it up to a 302.
There used to be really cheap pistons for a 307 on ebay - like $30 a set. I built a 60 over 283, with 305 heads, and it was a great little motor. 23mpg in a 3800lb camaro with a 4 speed and 3.08 gears, and ran a 14.9 on top of it.
