Anyone know of a good glass guy in the London area? My father and I will both be needing some cut by springtime. The last custom cut stuff my dad had done was in the late 80's and ****ty workmanship. Any glass shops we've checked lately just want you to bring in the car, they don't want to answer any questions. I'd like some confidence in them before bringing in the car.
Speedy on Wellington south in London was where I had all the flat laminate glass cut and edged for the construction equipment. (Kids were forever breaking the windows, at least the guys renting said it was kids.) Always did us right, reasonable on the time and everything always fit ok.
Thanks Sniper. We have a family owned excavating buisness and we've used a few local guys for our equiptment as well. Its the little details that concern me, such as sloppy sealant application, poor fitment on the rubbers(kinked corners) etc. If the windsheild in our skidsteer leaks a little its not a big deal, but on my hotrod, not good! I'll go see them and see if they have any references. I heard there is a custom guy in town, but no one I've spoken to knows his name.
What are you working on??? Chopped or not???? As Hudman said you can get kit & new W/Shields in the US cheaper than here!! I got the 2 pc. one for my 52 for around $380[ tinted] & picked it up while I was down there!!!

Mentioned this to my brother inlaw the other night, he hangs with a group of guys in London. He'll ask around and see if he can find out who it might be, I don't know myself. If we scare up some leads I'll post them for you.
This problem is probably why you see a lot of chopped projects almost finished for sale on KIJIJI and other places .The thing they have in common is no glass.I wonder what the big customizers do when they reach this stage.I see a lot of the recessed ,into the package tray or layed back rear windows .Front windshields are sometimes also recessed into the firewall or have flairs to cover the wipers like 70s hoods on the big Chevys, to make the windshield area seam smaller.Glass it seams is always a stumbling block,I guess it is one of those things we can't make ourselves,yet. Your right on the mark there Ed. I remember a fellow near me yrs. ago chopped a 59 Ford P/up, side & back glass were no "problem" but he "broke" at least 3 w/shields at the glass shop trying to get them "cut' to size!!!!!!

My car is a chopped 47 chevy. All flat glass except the rear window, but I leaned it forward to solve that. My dad is building a 49 suburban. Originally it had channels with sliders on the rear sides. He's thinking about using hardware from a minivan or something to make them tilt out. There's got to be guys around that can handle the job, there's lots of chop tops around!
If it's all "FLAT" then any good glass shop should be able to cut it if you give them a cardboard template!! Speedy auto glass did all the flat glass on the 51 Merc. P/up I had yrs. ago, & ground all the edges too!!!!
