Pilot Bearing removal using bread
Permalink

Today I removed the pilot bearing in my 302 Ford motor using the bread trick.  In 10 minutes it was out using half a hot dog bun and a 5/8 X 3 inch bolt.

Works super with no mess.  I had never heard of this before.  Something that might help down the road.

Following is a you tube video I came across last nite.

ive tapped the bushing and inserted a grease nipple and pumped it out.  works slick.  being a bearing though the threading method wouldnt work very well.  i never use bearings anyways, they tend to fail easy.  if a busing is not available ill turn one on my lathe from bronze rod stock rather then buy a bearing

I have used grease before. A pilot bearing remover is so much easier though.

Going off topic here, On bronzewall bushings I tap them with a course tap(5/8 I think) and then run a bolt in to push the bushing out.
