Ever since the 52 has been on the road [last sept.] I've had a problem of filling the tank. Kept 'blowing" the fuel back at me!! Yesterday I took the filler neck out of car & sure enough, the vent tube was "plugged" solid with spiders caccoon & other $hit. used a small flex brush to clean the crap out!!! Going to drop the tank "AGAIN" & check P/up tube as the car runs out of fuel with gage reading 1/4 tank??? I've set the float but now wondering if the p/up is too far from bottom of tank?? Stock tank & p/up but have changed the sender unit to match the dash unit.Tank was repaired & coated in 'ethanol' friendly sealer. these were from the "build' when tank was out.
I ended up changing my filler neck to one from a G-body which gave me a sealed cap. I then added a second steel line to the tank (near the sender) and ran a line to the engine compartment and into a charcoal cannister from a GM product ($15 at Standard Auto Wreckers). No more fumes and no more gas sloshing out of the filler neck and onto the fender when I drive. I honestly did this for emission control reasons and I love it. Along those same lines, I am loving how the cats I installed cut down on the regular "stink" from an unequiped exhaust.
What is that rear suspension you are running? It looks like 78-88 GM A/G body. Did you graft in the later rear frame or use the rear and control arms, making up your own brackets or are you using a complete later frame and suspenion? I have two G-bodies and really enjoy the ride that suspension gives (both my cars also have the rear sway bars and the larger of the stock front sway bars).

I cleaned out my vent tube in the filler neck and the fuel still belches back so I have to fill very slowly..did you get yours solved.. I am thinking maybe put a vent on the top of fuel tank..the original tank did not have a vent on top of tank so when I built the tank I did not put one on either.

Definetly need a vent in tank. I won't know till spring wether i've solved the problem but the org. tank does have a vent tube on it!!!! & seeing as it was plugged I'm sure this was the problem!!!
