A Classic Car Hot Rod Rally

As some of you may know, Bonfield Ont is building a Drag Strip.

Well it is built, it is just getting the finishing touches now.
In the summer of 2012 the IHRA gave us the stamp of approval. We are now officially the second Ontario track sanctioned by the IHRA

Would you travel to Bonfield Ontario to attend a King of The North CLASSIC STREET ROD event?

The event would have a Test N Tune all weekend long. for those who would like to take their entry down the track for fun.

A Show N Shine car show

And a Evening cruise up the Hwy to North Bay along the waterfront and back to Bonfield.

Depending on the 2013 Drag Racing scheduled we're looking at a mid or late Aug date for our event

THE EVENT IS IN THE PRELIMINARY PLANNING STAGES.

any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I don't know, a little more information is needed, for example ... I've always heard the mosquitoes were the size of Sparrows when you get that far north, is that true?  How many cans of bear repellent are needed for a weekend of camping in a tent?  Does bear repellent work on Wolverines?  Why are Horse Flies actually called Horse Flies when a large portion of their meat intake appears to be human flesh?  Will the area lakes still have ice on them or can we fish from a boat?  Has anyone been eaten by a Northern Pike in the last year?  Has a Sasquatch been spotted in the area recently?  Are people with head lice at risk from a Pileated Woodpecker attack?  Due to the extremely cold temps that far north, does a "bikini contest" actually mean "tight track pants and sweatshirt"?  I thought Bonfield was only accessible by float plane ... getting the cars there might be an issue.

OK, all jokes aside ... seriously, has there been a Sasquatch sighting in the area recently?

Those are some awesome questions LOL Seriously AWESOME post. :)
I'm guessing some people, (who've never be here) would like answers to some of those questions.
Mosquitoes aren't a problem until the sun goes down and it's then we ask you to keep your pets and kids in doors.

Bear repellant probably wouldn't be a bad idea. As pictures prove we have a few wild life Drag Racing fans. ie: moose crossing at mid track Lynx or bob cat at track finish line and a bear playing in the wet burn out box. Note to self. Ask Admin about fencing in park camp ground.

Why are horse flies called Horse Flies? After being bit by one once, I wonder that same thing.
Will the area lakes still have ice? By the schedule May grand opening? I sure hope not. But with the cold snap we've been having lately we're going to need a heat wave to melt the ice we're making this week (Jan 20 / 25) or you could boat around the ice burgs.

Anyone eaten or been bit by our Northern Pike this year? No reports as yet. I hear the maybe be going on tour again this year. Maybe they will make an appearance at one of the track events.

Are people with head lice at risk from a Pileated Woodpecker attack? I would guess that's a risk anywhere.

Our Bikini contests are the best bikini contests you will ever see. the cool evenings and cold fresh water work to our advantage in the contest. It's difficult being a judge. But will do it cuz it has to be done.

Everyone is welcome to the King of The North Drag Strip and Event Park. The locals have just completed widening the ATV trail and have now called it Hwy 531

Has Sasquatch been sighted recently in the area? Quite frequently. I think he live in the township somewhere. He actually looks pretty good lately. He cleans up well. I think he's got a girl. A real bear apparently.

How about THE GEAR-HEAD GATHERING.  Then from then on you could just advertise it as THE GATHERING  I like the swap meet part.  We (THE LOSERScc) were talking last week about a weekend meet at the strip next summer.

That's a good point FlatDuck

Like I said, This is still in the preliminary planning stages.
I'm glad of this forum. Simply because most of our attendees are Ontarians.

I'm open to suggestions and ideas. but I need to get it done ASAP.
We can improve the event every year. But we don't want to change the name of the event.
So we need to come up with that perfect name that will stick and last a life time.

Just a quick out line of the event:
It is for Hot Rods, Classic vehicles (modified or not)
Racer or show vehicles

It would be good if it could be a weekend event including a swap meet

LET'S HEAR YOUR IDEAS. and an ideal name for the event

It's a bit of a trek for me, but would love to make it. Do you have a link to the tracks website? What are the camping arrangements/facility, if I would be going as a spectator ? It don't matter much to me, but the little lady likely will ask> I'm getting better at this couple thing.

Its 465 km one way for me  x2 = 10 hours of driving total  $219.00 for gas ...

if its like Grand Bend   you have 8-10 hours sitting in the sun to watch 3 times trials

Way too long a trip for this old boy disbelief

Were talking about it .Its a long haul ,what kind of staging lane wates are you antisipating.I know it depends on car count but if your running a run what you brung you have to make sure the lowbuck guys aren't second fiddle.Nothing worse than sitting while some bigshot spends 20 minutes on track prep and warmups .Our club would definatly interested in a lowbuck weekend of racing street legal cars similar to the Picton Armdrop events. They run the cars thru very quickly and everyone gets as many runs as they want. You can get in touch with them at Armdropdragracing.com or Ktown racescene.com,they are a good group to talk with and maybe exchange ideas with. In2trux ........you don t really have to change the name of the event
there s still lot of street rods in the north ,i know there s a street rod club in Sudbury , but for myself i probably won t go on that special week end to watch drag racing just cause there s a street rod event
.i ll be in Northbay for my special weekend in september for the stereo competition at the car and bike show by the lake .hopefully they ll have drag racing that weekend ........but i could be there if there s a fleatmarket and swapmeet

I've set up another meeting with the track admin.
To discussed more of the details of a Classic car/Hot Rod weekend.

I was give a heads up that most of the 2013 schedule for the track has been booked.
July 26-28th in conjunction with Voyageur Days. Was still available. SO I GRABBED IT.

"I was given a heads up that most of the 2013 schedule for the track has been booked".

That right there is great news in itself for a brand new track (or any business for that matter) ... congratulations.

Ok, here goes.  I am running a 305 engine that was factory installed in (and that I removed from) a 1984 OLDSMOBILE Cutlass ... Does that make my engine a "Chevy" engine?  It actually IS a General Motors engine and I also think they were called "Corporate engines" during those years but I don't really understand how calling it a Chevy is 100% correct in this particular instance.  Am I offended?  Hell no, I'm just screwing with ya, I couldn't care what anyone calls it biggrin.  It starts, runs and drives just great and amazingly, virtually all small block chevy parts fit it too (which means there are always cheap and available replacement parts if I break down).

Syracuse is a lot closer !! The furthest north I've been in Canada is Huntsville, and I don't ever see myself going to North Bay.

IM really going to try. Might just skip Syracuse this year. Its about the same distance to North Bay as Syracuse for me and no border crossing. I know for a fact a few years ago the Right Coast guys were looking for a Eastern Canada venue to promote.
