wow, what a great day!

Big thanks to Pugsy for hosting such a great event, and to Alan (or maybe it was Mark?) for making GREAT food!!

I opted to observe for the day, as I was interested in all the machines and what they can do. I'm also seriously un-fit and pounding on a metal circle all day may have just killed me, lol.

It was also great just to meet new folk and put names to avatars

For anyone going tomorrow, get there early so Pugsy doesn't have to go through the training again... and again.. lol, sorry about that

Here's some pics of the day... (feel free to add names to faces for everyone's benifit.

How's the big event going? I've got the equipment I.D.ed and loaded in the van, but I had a few things come up(wind related) and my daughter is throwing a party here tonight and I'd like to be here for that. I've decided to come on Sunday - with the van ready to go, I'm hoping to be among the first to arrive!!!

P.S.: Along with the '64 Ranchero fender, I've also tossed in a passenger door from my '58 Ford.

Thanks to everyone who came and thanks to those who posted pictures.

What a great turn out. I counted 25 at one point.

Back at it tomorrow. You guys who aren't coming are missing something great. You can't believe the atmosphere at these meets.
For all those who can't make it, I sure hope you'll be able to get out next year.

Thanks Pugsy for an awesome adventure in metal working. Thanks also to those who shared there experience with those of us with out as much(or non at all...LOL). Great shop, lots of cool equipment that my son Ben and I wouldn't have ever been able to try anywhere else. It was worth the drive and great to meet new guys in the hobby. I was very impressed that all generations of car guys was represented. I think Ben was the youngest at 15 then there was a good group in the 20-30 range. Great to see the up and coming represented.

Great pics Dave!! If it ain't Scot ... it's ccrrrrraaaappppp!!! LOL Glad I learned that too!

Rich

That's me getting some advice from Grumps in pic#2

Indeed it was a great experience, met a few fellows, learned tons of new tricks and tools.I've got a beautiful patch in (not on) my '38's front fender to show for it. Great thanks for all the help and advise from all.
I really wanted to go back today for another go at it, but I was kindly reminded (yes, the wife), ...that the daughters and my step-grandson are coming over this afternoon and for diner, I didn't have a leg to stand on.
It's all good, I'm looking forward to the next one though.

PS: Pugsy...next time I'll bring some Vaseline, it'll make easier for you to rape my French Canadian heritage, LOL.

Thanks for everything, and thanks to everyone, it was awesome.
Great pics also.

I had a great time today. What a fun day.Too bad we had to leave early as I was enjoying working the wheel.I actually made a bowl out of a flat peice of metal. It felt like I was back in shop class ,only this time working with metal insted of turning an ashtray out of a chunk of wood.Met some of the guys from here and some other participants and I really enjoyed watching the progress on there projects. Some of the guys were fixing fenders and patch panels, others were reparing pedel cars and metal soapbox cars. There were guys learning welding and honing other skills. So thanks Pugsy for a chance to learn something and gain a whole new respect for the metal working trade and appriciate how phisically tireing it can be.Also a big thankyou for the chance to meet a really great bunch of guys.We were talking with other clubs about a sort of alternating, rolling kind of cruse events so lets get the club thred up again and see what we can come up with. Now what am I going to do with this bowl ,the wife says if it stays in the house I have to eat off of it. I'd like to take this chance to thank Pugsy again for an awesome day. Learned lots, and beat metal into shapes I didn't think possible. Only to find I could make it better and smash at it some more. Met some really cool people, hell I even got to weld a bit. Had a great day and im looking forward to the next meet. Maybe a fall one ?

Pugsy,

A BIG thank you to you for opening your shop and offering a chance to people that dont normally get a chance to beat metal ......Beat metal!

Met a great bunch of guys...every one with a story.

If people like you Pugsy don't offer chances like this.....the knowledge of our hobby...passion....will not be passed on to others

Great job!!!!!!!!!!

There were so many good people there...."Ontario Rodders".... we should make an effort to get together for an outing...or cruise....or something

Thanks again... Great day

I had a great time on day 2. I worked on my distorted fender and near the end, I even made Bowl!!!!
We had a very skilled instructor which in turn allowed the novices in the room to build their own skills to double, triple, quadruple, or maybe ever more the level it was when they entered the room. I know even at my ripe old age I learned a ton! Nice to see a few young fellas taking interest as well!

Thanks for putting this on Pugsy - lookin forward to the next one!

Wow !!! smile  looks like everybody had a great time and got some serious learning..Sorry I was unable to make it ..combination of old achy bones, arthritis and some family stuff that just interferred with that being able to happen for me..Hopefully maybe next year..Even though I was not there I sure enjoyed looking at the pictures of those who did make it.. It is inspiring to see such a mix of ages and backgrounds all playing with big-boy toys and by the intense expressions on faces, everybody was having a learning experience..Great..just great.. I appreciatte everybody posting their experience and pictures..would be real nice (like icing) if we could get some names to those pictures..and as the rest have said ..Pugsy that is a really great thing you do to open your shop to all these guys and share your experience, skills, and your shop to all the Ontario Rodders.. That is really really big of you considering all the insurance liabilitys that exist to-day.. Good on you, it is true examples of guys like your self willing to share your shop, time and guidance that keep the younger guys motivated and us older guys as well,  many of the guys would never have an opportunity to have that experience or even see some of that equipment without guys like your self stepping up to plate..I want to say a big thank you for you generousity and I hope to make the next one..Big Big thanks for the thread and postings..smile smile

LOL, it could be easier, I'm glad I'm not Newfie. I will most definately be there next year. I'm kinda disapointed I couldn't make it for Sunday, but family comes first, since there moving to London in a few weeks, I'll see them less frequently.

Chuck, get in touch with me if you'd like to go next year, we could meet up in Stratford or New Hamburg and drive up together, I went alone this year.

Sure hope you can make it next year too.

I do have most names to go with faces. I will post them with the pics I put up later. Hopefully the ones I'm not sure of pipe up and tell me who it is in the pic without getting pissed at me for forgetting or not taking the info down properly.

You've got a good heads-up, so plenty of time to prepare (like you need it, LOL). I might sneak in from the back door again.

But now that I know what to expect, I have a better project in mind that'll require some expertise.

Did I hear someone mention, maybe this fall?

I had a great time Saturday. My first Hogtown metal meet. Great bunch I met. Sure learned a lot banging out patches for my chev truck. Easier said than done. Wish I could have stayed for Sunday but I had tour at George Tackaberry's on Sunday with the Upper Canada Antique Truck club that I wanted to attend too. Nothing but trucks all weekend! A big thank you to Pugsy! I appreciate all the effort in putting on the event. Thanks again for hosting and sharing your skills.

Who was the clown that wore the hat sitting on the yellow door? The hat should have been white! LOL! Had some pretty good laughs with him!

You never know when something someone teaches you or shows you how to do,is going to effect you.The other day I was rereading an old book on restoring cars and came across an article about a guy who made all his own panels for the old classic cars.A metal beater they called him.I must have read that article at least 20 times over the years, but never really gave much thought to what it ment ,metal beater.Since going to Pugsy open house and taking part, in a very small way, in the art of metal beating ,this article and the work this man produced have taken on a whole new meaning. Thanks again Pugsey and the others who helped us rookies learn a little and allowed me to look at this art a little defferently than before.
