I just got off the phone from booking my camping and entrance ticket. I heard that Danielle from "American Pickers" will be there signing autographs, as well as Candy Clark (again) !!

There was over 7750 cars last year with over 90000 people. IMO this is the best car event on the planet. Looking forward to it. smilesmile

I missed it last year, due to unexpected circumstances, I'm definitely going this year. Getting together with a few friends from Odessa and Kingston. We always camp there, Thursday to Sunday. I'd love to make the trek to the Atlantic Nats., that's on the bucket list, we have close friends that just moved to Nova Scotia last fall.

Syracuse is a spectacular show, I would also rank it no.1, of all the shows have ever attended.

I hope to be there again this year.
Grumps, go to the Syracuse nats website and you will find a list of hotels, book through one of the links and you will get the best rate. There are several in the Carrier circle area, that's where I normally stay. There are 3 restaurants within staggering distance.

Booked my two nights, $106 total, by NOT going through the Nats website ;).
Right on Old Collamer Road South too, beside the $129/night one that the website recommends, lol.

Geez, that gets expensive when you have to stay at a Motel. I booked Thurs,Fri, Sat for camping, and including my admission to the show was $115 for everything. I always show up on Wednesday and never get charged for the extra night.

It is pretty cheap for hotels at that time in Syracuse, but you're right. I'd prefer to camp...but the wife is whole-heartedly AGAINST that, lol.

If I want to go...I have to get a hotel. Happy wife, happy life! :).

HEY !! I'm not fat , just short for my weight !!

According to the American height/weight chart I should be about 9 foot 3inches tall which is a bit of concern though !cry

Here's exactly where I park every year !! No Dust, get to park my car under the horse stables in case of bad weather, close to washrooms and great neighbours that usually bring a projection camera to play movies against the buildings. There's also a small go-kart track that has races on Thursday night which is awesome to watch.

With so many going, we should set up a "meet and greet" somewhere on the fairgrounds.

That would be great, as long as it's not in the grandstands by the track, dayum is the beer ever spendy there. I always have a couple coolers full on ice. We always camp right about where the red "A" is on the map, bottom of track, close to the cross-over. We always fly our Canadian flag. Not sure what we'll be driving yet.

If we go down as a group, it may take a long time to get there because we'll have to wait for Sacotu at the border while he's getting his "strip/cavity search" !!

Driving down together would be great but what border crossing? Down I81 or across I90. Myself I'll be crossing at Ogdensburg( no traffic or backout) on Saturday morning, cutting across Route 37 and picking up I81 at LaFargeville, will be staying at one of the motels with a number in it.

I always cross at Gananoque. If I had to cross through Buffalo, I would stay home !! I absolutely hate driving through Toronto/Mississauga/Oakville/ !!That QEW stretch is the worst !!
BTW, got my Syracuse entrance package today ! Sweet !!

I remember last year looking at Gene's articles for sale right beside the pin stripping area, when an older lady came up to him and started telling him how she used to work with/for him like 40 years ago. It really bothered me that Gene wouldn't even look at ,let alone listen to her story because she was so exited to have seen him again. He just stood behind his display and was muddling around with the stuff on his table basically ignoring her. I may be wrong, but these old guys that people look up to should at least take a bit of time to acknowledge their fans. Another old timer I saw do the same thing was Don Garlits. I guess they've been around so long that people looking up to them has become routine and humdrum. It seems like the only way they will talk to you is if you buy some of the crap they're selling.

I think when it gets to that point, they should just stay home, IMO.

Having met both Winfield and Garlits, I can say they were very friendly and had no problems talking to me or signing stuff for me.
Even posed with me for pictures

I met Garlits many times also, even at his home in Ocala about 20 years ago. He was awesome then and spent over 20 minutes talking mostly about non-car stuff. I saw him again last year in Norwalk, and it was almost as he was bored with the fame. I'm sure everyone, myself included would be the same after so many decades of the same thing.
I don't think hearing issues are a problem for Gene, because he had no problems making a sale to someone while that older lady was talking to him. Who knows !! Maybe he was constipated. We'll see what he's like this year.

First timer for Syracuse, booked my hotel which they said was minutes from the fairgrounds but I found out that it is actually 20 minutes driving time. Arriving on Friday for two days really looking forward to it. Anyone else travelling from Niagara region? It would be great to travel down together.

Most of the hotels are on the other side of the lake. If you're concerned about crappy roads, then try to get to the fairgrounds from the west side. Bear street, and Hyawatha are real absolutelly horrible.

Something new for the 2013 Nationals will be an autocross course!  For any of you who have built your cars to do something more than go like hell in a straight line! Turn right and left on a challenging course.

Visit www.rightcoastcars.com for info and to register for the event

In addition, this year will feature Danielle from the TV show "American Pickers".

I have confirmed my spot with the pinstripers group again this year, staying at the Crowne Plaza downtown as we did last summer again.

As for Gene Winfield not acknowledging this lady, you never heard but maybe there was a good reason that she didn't "still" work for him too...

I cannot imagine Gene being like that for any other reason than a good one actually, been with him many, many times all over North America

and cannot say anything bad about the man.

Well it looks like I got burned, I just called, and all the campsites are sold out, and there's a waiting list. A small glimmer of hope though, they are having a meeting on Thursday, to see if they can get some other area on the Fairgrounds for camping. These would be dry camping spots with no service.
I need to call back on Friday and see what, if any other spots have opened pray.gif.
This sucks, I sold my motorhome last year to my friend, (we go to Syracuse together every year), and he told me he had taken care of the camping spot, but he didn't frustrated.gif, he figured we'd drive down on Wednesday and have no problems getting a spot juggle.gif.

I missed the show last year, due to some on foreseen circumstances, I'm for sure not missing it two years in a row.

Camping Is hugely popular at the Nationals....it's something you need to book months in advance to be safe on the safe side.  With over 7,500 cars attending, every inch of space is needed on the fairgrounds!

There may be hotel availability, but I would search now....don't wait!!

Good luck!
