A buddy stopped by and had a new coil I could have to try and get my truck running on 12V. Saves me buying a 6V battery as I have a bunch of 12V around. The coil is a flame thrower 12V negative ground with internal ballast resistor. 3 ohm. Would I hurt anything if I used this for just getting the truck running? Don't need lights or anything else.
Are you running a 6v generator? The points, wires and plugs, should have no immediate issues, if only to get it fired up and running. If you have a 6v generator, it might not be up to the task.
I fired my Dodge flathead 6, with 6v starter and wiring ,straight off a 12v battery and 12v coil, and I disconnected the generator. It worked for simply firing it up and get it running, I only ran it 15-30 seconds then shut it down, no damage done. I've done this a few times since, as I have the engine out, and want to keep it loose and running.
I need to add, I wasn't running a voltage regulator also. I honestly can't say how much your condenser can take though. I figured they were fairly inexpensive parts to replace anyways and went for it.
If you are going to start it to run the motor and don't have a 6 volt you can just jump with the 12. the easiest way is to install battery remove wire from the stomp starter going to key switch this should keep you from screwing a lot of stuff up . install a wire with a Togo, discconect, alligator clip from the + post of the battery to the + post of the coil and turn on step on stomp starter and it should run. you have to brake the power to the coil for it to shut off .O ya don't reconnect the original coil wire . you are going to be running off the battery without recharging
