that things a heap, defintley not a rat rod. the only person allowed to slap on the flat black and call it a rat rod is flatblack55, he invented rat rodding
We built stuff like that 30 years ago and had lots of fun just like him. Do you think the first guys to put big engines in small cars cared about how safe they were. It was always fun to pull up beside some high dollar ride and kick his butt with a rotted turd. I remember a guy in Kitchener with a Monza coupe, gold with a red left door and hood, hubcaps on the front and chrome steel wheels with slicks out back. If you looked close you could see a cage tucked tightly to the pillars painted the same colour as the interior. Under the hood was a 383 stroker with a Paxton blower, an intercooler behind the grille and a 5000rpm stalh convertor. Made fools of many. Many of us have done it at some time or another so if you ask why he would build that or say he is crazy, maybe you are showing your age just like the neighbor that hated your pride and joy.

Kids having a blast who gives a rats ass what you call it or what it looks like.Thats the way I learned jump in and do it. I learned more from the things I did wrong then I ever did from the things I did right.
Lets see take a pile of parts add a bunch of parts from other stuff ,assemble in driveway using whatever you have around for tools. Then drive the wheels off of it, there is a name for that .Lets see ,I know it ,oh ya hotrodding. No matter what it looks like, the smile the first time it fires is the same.Doesn't matter if you have $2,000 into it or $20,000 the feeling is the same.I really don't care what the kids are building as long as they are building.Maybe I'm not into there style of car but who cares, same as I don't care if people don't like mine .As someone says on this site,"I didn't build my car to please you",I'll bet that kid could care less if people like his car ,he built it and he is enjoying it and that is al that matters .
