What have you used for sound proofing? I'm replacing my firewall pad and installing a 4 speed so it seems like the perfect time to upgrade the insulation. Guys on the HAMB talked about a product called peel and seal at lowes but can't find it there.

sound proofing? whats that? i wouldnt be happy if couldnt hear the hundreds of things my buick is doing while im driving/fighting it. i removed the insulation from the firewall as well.

"Peel and seal" is in the roofing section, at least it is at Lowes in the US. It's used as flashing in the valley when roofing. I've used it before, much cheaper than Dynamat and works everybit as well

When I used Peel&Seal, I was sceptical because this product had to be "too good to be true" !! My concern was that I would get a "tar" smell from the product inside the car, but there was none !!

Like I said before, it is identical to Dynamat except the black "tar" is just a bit thinner, and it doesn't have the "Dynamat"logo printed on it. Dynamat is just a company that puts their name on a given product made to their specs, and I'm sure that their product is made with the same materials, and maybe even in the same factory as roofing materials. The only difference is that because of marketing they can charge 10 times more, and people are stupid enough to buy it, IMO.

427 Carl, if your floor is getting that hot, that's because of a bad exhaust design and the only real fix is to reroute the pipe.

I used a wrap (reluctantly) on my car to keep the heat away from the battery on one side and the master cylinder on the other. This stuff has been on there for 6 years and is as good as the day I installed it. This might work for your issue? Worth a try.

Sorry if my post came across wrong but peel and seal exposed to the header heat was my only concern . Iv herd nothing negitive about the product even exposed to constant 100F temps and not off gasing but everything has its limits and paint peeling heat is not the place for an ashphalt product. thats why I had sugested the wrap or heat sheld as a buffer zone and yes the heat shield would be my first choise. Anyway Danno I never get tired of seeing picks of your car amazing attentsion to detail. I have to ask what was the closed cell foam you used it looks to have a foil backing to it also.

Thanks Slim !! I bought the closed cell foam at Barrie . The foam has aluminum backing on both side and I spray glued it right to the aluminum backing of the Peel&Seal. The Guy I bought it from is there every year, and if I recall it's the only thing he sells. I've seen him at other flea markets also. The reason I used this stuff is because it's impossible for moisture to penetrate it. It seems to work great, because even on the hottest day I have to turn the A/C down.

That closed foam stuff can be bought at Home Depot. Different widths. foil on both sides with the bubble foam in the middle.

I sprayed Lizard Skin on the complete interior. One coat of thier ceramic based product as a thermal barrier and one coat of their sound deadener. Great stuff!

I almost used Lizard Skin when I built my car, but this was 7 years ago and Lizard Skin was just new on the market ! I thought it was pretty expensive, and the price of the "special" spray gun added to the cost of the product made it a bit too much. Also, I didn't want to be one of the first ones to try this stuff in case it was junk. Also, the product is water based and I was affraid of poor adhesion and flaking off later on. 7 years later, I've never heard any bad things about Lizard Skin, so it must be good stuff, but I'm so impressed with the Peel&Seal that I would definitely use it again. Either way, IMO, you'll have success !!

I forgot to mention that my whole exhaust is made from 304 stainless, and that's why I wraped a bit of it near the battery and master cylinder. Time will tell if this wrap will damage stainless like it does on mild steel tubing. So far, so good !!

Another option you could try is to make a shield that clamps to your pipe with an air gap in between. At least this won't damage the pipe.

Good idea!! The V8 manifolds are real close I have header warp but decided not to wrap header (read about it killing the headers) but I can warp the pipes back past the floor area I love it I might get off my winter butt and go do that this week

Today I started using Peel and Seal on the rear section of the floor my Maverick. This is my first go around with this product and I am very pleased how easy it goes down. Many thanks to the guys on this forum for bring it to my attention. Thanks to Hemi for his posting and sharing his pictures.
I was able to purchase the 6 inch by 33.5 foot rolls at Roofmart in Waterloo for just over $25.00 plus taxes.

You can also buy it in 3' wide x 33' long rolls for about $100!
Great and very cost effective if you want to do multiple layers.

Went into our local RONA store looking for more Peel and Seal, but RONA does not carry it. They were showing me a product from Resisto (waterproof solutions) that looks very similar except that the aluminum is smooth (?)
I was just wondering if anyone has tried this product and if so, how does it compare to Peel and Seal?

Probably the same stuff.

We're not talking rocket science here !! The whole idea for using this type of product is to apply a soft, dense material against the sheet metal to absorb vibrations. As long as the bitumen (black tar crap) is as thick as Peel&Seal, then it should perform the same. I have to admit that "Dynamat" is a bit thicker, but IMO is not worth 10X the price.

Back in the 70's & early 80's, when Customizing Vans was popular, there was a foam product that you sprayed on the inside of the van, it expanded considerably, then you installed you panelling or carpet or whatever. I remember Borden's was one of the companies that sold it. It acted as an insulation and as a noise suppressor. Anybody Know who sells it now or the product name?
It is much like the spray foam product for sealing cracks around light boxes or sealing up non air tight joints on your house however this stuff sprays on like a paint and grows. It does not oooze out like that foam I mentioned
