this has to be the saddest piece of junk i have ever seen anyone dare to ask money for.  considering what i am building i feel pretty good about it when i see something this horrible.  i would offer this guy 100 dollars just to save him from owning it

I hope they don't think it's drivable. Can't be the same person that has the '55 beside it for it doesn't look bad at all.

I liked the rat rod thing in the beginning but I think some kind of proportional flow of lines and a sense of safety need to be followed.

Yep, definitely a pile of crap.
You should go to Syracuse nationals Fatstax and see some of the "rat rods" that are plated, even worse than this pile.

I like RRs but it's hacked crap like this that gives rat rodding a bad name.

I think the question to be asked here is....Would you get your car fixed at Pop's Garage?

well it could have some potential but it would require a complete re think, its literally thrown together, i wonder if this guy got taken by a shady rod shop and now hes in too deep and has to sell?

I agree with the OP. This truck doesn't have one single redeeming quality about it. It's a very poorly planned, hardly executed creation or lack therof

I would give him 500 for it . I see that in parts, I would however tear it apart and start all over with a custom frame and work it from there.

I'm with you. Gives us all a bad name in my opinion. But, I have seen worse. Go to Indy or the Hunnert car pileup. Bungy cords holding doors closed, no floors, tractor seats and worse. I like a good traditional rod, flat black, whatever but some of this junk just doesn't belong on the road. The HAMB won't even allow the term RatRod anymore and that's the way it should be - let this thing die before someone gets hurt and we all suffer because of it. You know the papers and the cops are going to say "HotRod" kills pedestrian or some such thing. They won't be mentioning that it was an Rat.

I liked when they first came out an were called rat rods , like the ones you see on the tardell flat head museum links .
but a lot of what they call rat rods now , are more like art cars . where they take mismatched parts an throw them togetrher , like a brake pedal made outta a cresent wrench and welded to a chopped off brake arm .
just something as simple as a brake pedal arm shpould be one piece , and the foot pad needs to made of a serrated material or have a rubber pad on it so your foot doesnt slip off in an emergency stop where you might not get a good grip on the pedal
tractor seats , i grew up on a small farm an hey guess what steel tractor seats are fuggin uncomfortable especially when they are hot from the sun
Sorry guys , but this fad an hopefully its short lived one passes
I dont mind some of them , but it has to be sAFE an some of those bobber cartoonish ones , like come on ,
you built a car thats so loud , ten minutes an you have an ear ache an the woman wont ride in it
no floor pans . when I was like 8 ?? maybe , I got dragged under a utility wagon on pavement . road rash . I lived . but who doesnt put floor pans in a rod or anything .Gawd even some harleys come with foot boards .
a tire spinning at 60 mph inches from your elbow , a blow out can destroy a trailer fender or a 1/4 panel , what do you think it will do to your arm
You , me or any one could go on an on bad points good points . But some of them are just badly designed and put together ..77.

Windows open, vent window cranked around, rear upper tailgate open, and arm out the window, makes for cool crussin. Also cuts down on the fumes from CT header paint that has a tempature rating of about 90degrees max, just as Fatstax. Ed

dont be discouraged by the haters, hater gonna hate, thats a fact of life.  the rat rod title is appropriate if it is indeed a rat rod, not a tossed togther peice of crap that has no rhyme or reason.  the highley polished billet boyd club will never understand, money is not really an object if i wanted to build a high lustre high buck machine, i simply choose not to.  not to say i dont have some money in my current build, im pretty sure im around the 3000 dollar mark.  the best part is ill bet i can sell my rig when its done for far more than invested, instead of losing money selling a cream puff rod that broke the bank to build since they simply arent in demand.

Best part about hedder paint is all the time an prep you put into the paint job , you do your best not to get any runs , or miss any spots , then the sh%t burns off in like 5 minutes . ha ha ..77.

Simple POR-15 Exhaust manifold paint you can get original cast or a lighter cast. It works great on headers.

That's what's great about the car hobby !! There so many variables that everyone has their favorite in one form or another. It would be a boring hobby if everyone like the same type of carsmile I agree that some of the purists or extremists have rides that make us shake our heads, but at the end of the day we are ALL car guys !!

I haven't been to Vern Tardell's site, but have been to his shop and I didn't see any sign of Rat Rods there. He builds traditional Hot Rods safely.

My reference to Tardell,s an rat rods was re the articles that started showing up in hot dog magazine . They were calling them rat rods but actually , the cars were , real or , traditional rods .. That the owners had spent a lot of time detailing an tracking down vintage parts an pieces .
as opposed to what is called rat rods now , pieced together , but with mismatched bits a pieces found laying about anywhere ..77.

that is so true today, years ago people got snubbed if they didnt follow the crowd, i think this is how guys like boyd and other customizers got rich, by determining so called rules for hot rodding.  even that truck as awful as it is might have some place in hot rodding, parted out most likely.

There is a line between cobbled up junk and rat rod. IMHO that may have crossed the line. Rad rods may appear rough and have more emphasis on style than practicability but generally have a finished look and feel to them. A rat rod or any hot rod is a reflection of it's builder. That does not say something of it's builder, it screams it. The only redeeming quality would be the suicide doors, they'll probably fly off and kill someone the first time you hit 100k but it's at least an attempt at style. He's probably get better weight distribution if the battery was in the back, not bolted to the front bumper. Be one heck of a mess if a stone went through it.

Did you look at that thing? It has no place on the road or at any kind of real car guy event. I love traditional Hot Rods, patina's great, (I've built and driven 4 fenderless traditional style Hot Rods and I'm working on a 33 Convertible that could have been built {properly} in the 50s as well as my own chopped and channelled fenderless T coupe right now) but stuff like that just gets people thinking Hot Rods are unsafe (And rightly so) and we end up being ridiculed and legislated against. There's no reason for something like that to exist.

1980 Suzuki RAT ROD - $3500

<:section class=userbody>

image 1image 2image 3image 4image 5image 6

This is new toy for the "grown ups" I have bought a little Suzuki and tore it down and rebuilt it back with different car parts, from a scout windshield and roof, freight liner hood on the truck area, and the 70's dinner chairs for the seats to ride in, this is a MUST SEE! You will truly be the talk of the town in this little RAT ROD!
