welcome .. I think we all started somewhere with what we could afford ..I don't think anybody will stomp on you for what your doing ,,good on you for your project.. looks like your doing a nice clean job of that looks pretty neat and tidy sitting in there...As to the MOE and e-testing..probably you should try to find out what that engine was equiped with for emission equipment from the factory and try to incorporate it into your build..I beleive that is what what you will have to have on that vehicle to pass...take a look on their site for a good clear explaination of the rules ..I beleive they have done a good job of making the rules pretty clear at least to me they make it clear what they want..if you do not have it as they want you will probably fail ..so do it right ..you will a lot less stress on the project and know it will have a good ending..when your getting your plates..Good luck..there a good number of knowledgeable guys on here that are willing and able to help you out..have fun and be safe...

I Just would like to say what a great site and nice to see alot of locals on here from surrounding areas and clubs! I'm 26 years old and have a passion for customs and modified autos old and new. Currently my ride is a 94' Ranger which have had since I got my licence. I know, I know.. Nothing special and not anywhere near "historic" status yet but it has been my baby since I started driving and instead of seeing it rust away I decided to put a little muscle into it and restore it to something a bit different. Its been a few years of tinkering around in the shop with chassis, paint, and drive train upgrades but I'm finally on the last step to having this back on the road for the summer. It started off as just a simple paint n restore but it never ends there. I picked up a 79' 302 out of a T-Bird with FMX trans for around 300$ which I decided to do a v8 swap with. Mostly just for the hell of it but I was getting hassled by all the club guys and figured this would be a good project to start with. Well were about year and a half in now and the engine has been rebuilt, swapped into the truck and is in running condition.. Not well as of yet, but it runs and sounds awesome. Still got some small problems with tuning the carb to getting it in safe driving condition and cooling capacity is a slight problem for the large v8 in my lil engine bay haha. All in all its been a great learning experience for me to complete this, (basically doing 99% of all the work myself) and like a bad habit I cant wait to start another project asap. Being the Ford enthusiast everyone around me knows I am, the next project would ideally be an old Falcon or Mustang, and definitely 60's. However that wont likely start until I get more garage space and a bigger driveway!
The final test for the Ranger will be to pass an emissions test here in Ontario.. I kinda thought it would be a little tricky when I first set out on this venture but I am only realizing now as the project nears completion how hard this might actually be to accomplish. I guess my order of business is to get it tuned and running proper, find a drive clean center that will run me under "hot rod" designation, hope they don't notice that there is no air pump or egr hooked up and pray the numbers are low enough to pass. Damn I hate this stupid law, even with the new regulations it seems its just a bigger cash grab for the gov't even though they know the numbers say its not helping to reduce emissions. Full on safety checks IMO would be the better way to go and scrap the etest all together, but for now we wait.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to get this thing to pass or know anywhere to go for a test as it stands now I'd love to hear any suggestions.
Thanks again for having me be a part of your site and keep on Cruizing.
Your on the right track with the "HOTROD" smog test.
For your E-test delima. First you will need a letter from your nearest Ford dealer, stating that the engine was not offered for your model year Ranger. You will need to show this to the mechanic doing the E-test. Find a shop that can fine tune the engine for you and make sure all the original smog equipment is on, then get it into a drive clean facility.
Last thing you want is the MOE to pull you over and have a looksee and fine you for missing something as simple as an EGR component.
Welcome and i like that truck nice and understated. The engine choice is a sound decision and as for the emissions rules you can follow what 58 chev says. There are interpretations to the rule. There is always the fake factor if the visual is what you need. Know a few that have taken that route wink wink. Im glad a younger guy like yourself is jumping in with both feet its nice to see. I personally respect all hotrods no matter what the year, dont fret for not driving a 50s or 60s car/truck, anything thats done with skill and with the need to customize or speed is cool. Im primarly a GM guy but i like them all, most folks have no conception of the time effort and money it takes.

I remember starting to fix up my first car...a VW Jetta lol. I was a rice kinda guy who liked Honda Civics, Toyota's and liked low cars with big stereos. Then I got my first taste of Muscle when I bought a 68 Chevelle when I was 21 years old. Since sold the car and now build rods with my buddy Glenn (Grumpsbodyworks on here)
As I have been told, if someone knocks you for building a Ranger, tell them to go and build one the way they want and come back.
Catch you at some shows maybe.
