After a 2hr.+ drive to go & see this vehicle that both parties[ me & him] were going to trade on, was 'really dissapointed!! Car was described as being really good & appr. at $22000+!! On taking the cover off, I notice that the right side door & vent window are cracked, mentioned this & he says " so are both on the left side" seat back is so laid back I can't reach the strg. wheel,& can't move the seat due to ratchet floor shifter, dash is "Butchered where radio was, to install a Tach, the speaker grill has been mosified to hold 3 ugly guages, & the paint on dash is "SO Orange peeled" it looks like "rust bubbles" Says theres a radio harness in G/box, YEP, a piece of house ext. cord + some more for spkr.wire?? Under the hood lurks what I think is a 429 auto, but the "pan" is 1/8 away from the R/P strg. unit to Fat man type frt. end. Could see some "hit" marks on Pan??? Ask how long he's had the car, Long enough to drive it around the block, "It's really fast" but not what he wanted on the trade he made?? Ownership not in his name, Time to "WALK AWAY which I did, nice day to waste 5 hrs!! I'll keep the 64 Catalina over trading it off on a car like that, looked good in the pics. he sent me, but to me "No where near the Pontiac" in quality & workmanship" I'll keep looking or keep the poncho!!! Pete

Its like they say Pete....One mans garbage is another mans gold...or the other way around......Some people just cant see the flaws in their stuff. When I sold my 62 a few years ago, I was worried the whole time that the guy was looking at it that he would find this and that, what I knew was not quite up to par.....He didnt, cus he wanted it.
The other day when you mentioned that the guy said it wasnt what he wanted sort of sent up a red flag for me. If it isnt what you want, dont buy the friggin thing....Kind of like these guys that buy a car at night and then complain about what it looks like the next morning.
..If I were to travel any distance I would want lots of pictures ahead of time before deciding to leave the house. It is no big deal for a guy to click off 30 pics inside and outside of a a car and email them to you,,not in this day and age..The guy is an AHOLE not being honest knowing the distance you are travelling, regardless he is an AHOLE,, mind you it did get you out the house for the day
All the pics he sent were 20 footers, & kept saying how nice the paint was & new tires & interior!! Cheapest interior I've seen in a long time, & thats all he kept saying the whole time I was there. I figured out "real quick" that he knows nothing about cars other than where the key goes, & he likely swapped this off,for whatever he had, not knowing what he was into??? I stated the flaws & apprx. what it would cost to fix it, shocked him I think!! Oh well, thats done & over with, Carry on

First and for most Fatchuck quit posting my X girfriends in your avitar..lol I am with you on this one guys. Last year I drove to where the water starts to flow north to look at a 53 cheby that was supposed to be a real deal I pulled in the guys yard and the friggin body panels were waving at me 12hrs of drive time wasted. That didn't teach me though did the same thing a month later only this time is was only a 5 hour waste of time. Now I ask for photos of everything followed up by numerous phone calls or e-mail's. I have been very fortunate latley and have done some very good trades, for both parties. Honesty is the best route for sure.
I had a neighbour that bought a 53 Chev pick up in Sarnia. He said there was a 55 Caddie in this guy's back yard that was "mint". I called the guy to get details. "Yessir" he says..."its mint. Chrome is perfect...car is complete and motor is not siezed but not running." He told me he wanted $3500.00 for it. I called a towing company to see what it would cost to haul it back from Sarnia to Brantford, in case I made the deal. Off I went to see the car. Took me just over 2 hours to get there. It was JUNK. It sunk into the ground and was sitting on the floors. The FAN turned when he tried to show me that the engine wasn't siezed but the rest of the engine did not turn. Mice finished off the interior. I casually kicked the rear bumper for fun and the toe of my sneaker went THROUGH it! POS. Told him I'd give him a g-note to save it from the wreckers. He flipped out saying it was worth way more. I went home.
One man's junk is certainly another man's gold...but not this time.
Hey, its all part of the hobby. Win some , lose some.

I once rented a uhaul car hauler...took it to a friends place who has a diesel p-up who offered to take me to look at a 4x4 chevy truck. I paid for his fuel, lunch and a 40 ozer of whiskey. 3-4 hrs later we arrive to find a pile of junk..... I tried to raise the hood and my friend told me later that the whole front end was lifting. I told the young guy that my wife would divorce me for bringing that home. then left 5 minutes later. I believe the pics on his kijiji ad where taken when he first got it. Oh well it was a nice days outing...at my expense!

if the time ever comes you can't see it, you can lay on your back and do it from underneath.
A few years ago I picked up a 57' poncho in Windsor. I asked a bunch of specific questions about the car (how is the frame, how is the roof, and do you have an ownership) and the seller said all is good. He wanted a ST10 transmission I had for sale, plus cash for the car. It was a decent deal so I drove down to windsor and when I got there, it was total trash. Roof was pinholed bad , frame was real bad, and the ownership wasn't in his name and was filled out to someone else.
I was going to leave but he really wanted the trans so I ended up trading him straight up because the car had some very hard to get parts on it that were compatible with a 57' chevy - it was a powersteering, powerglide car. Since I only brought a dolly since the car was supposed to be in much better shape, I threw it on the dolly and drove home. The drivers side broke about an hour into a four hour drive, but I got it home.
I was so disgusted with the car I just sold it. Luckily it sold fast for about what a good ST10 is worth so i did end up eating the travel expenses. Its up on kijiji right now, flipped through at least two owners, and the price has increased to $2500. I hope the guy who has it now didn't get burned on it like I did.
The description " mint " has been around for decades , and was the butt of many jokes back in the day . Looks like it's the same old- same old . I think you need to have zero expectations when travelling to see any vehicle ...think of it as a day trip that MIGHT turn out good . That way you'll have fewer disappointments .
