Hey Guys, anybody out there running this engine,I am trying to find some reveiws on this engine,I am going to order one for My 66 Biscayne.I have checked out the MOE/Drive Clean BULL$HIT page and says that you can put a "Crate Engine" in a older vehicle as long as you have the bill of sale with you to prove it is a Crate Engine,Does NOT require emission controls at all.I just want to know if it is a srong runner,I have found a couple of magazine articles on this engine, but only 1 reveiw, any input would be great.

It's a tall deck engine. Got Headers that will fit?  Rear steer on your Chevy.

No personal experience with the 572. But both the ZZ454 and the 502/502 are very strong running engines.

Cool. It does have rear steer, oil pan might be a issue,my 396 is real close to drag link, custom build,I thought about ZZ454,looks good, but I figured I might go all Balls out,572 will get the job done. The tall deck, with the headers might be a concern, but if it is in there then I will have to work around that,I am not sure what trans to use,Tremic sounds good, maybe a muncie,I was thinking of putting in a S60 from Strange in the rear based on the Dana 60 that should work.

The ZZ454, 502, and the 572 come with truck oil pans. I changed it to a GMPP 12495360 pan kit on the ZZ454 into a '70 Chevelle. add $200.

i looked at going that route. listed at 18,000.00, cost was about 14,000,00. i ended up going another route but fit into a biscayne shouldn't be a big obstacle. as mentioned the oil pan. mine was a bit of a squeeze into the chevelle. super comp headers and a little bigger scoop on hood. as for tranny i made a change for me going from a standard to an o/d auto, 2004R, from california performance transmissions. they are rated for a 1000hp. i'd never had any experience with an auto and some power but this tranny blew me away, literally. put an equal hp car with a standard beside this and there is no way the standard will shift as quick or as hard. trust me i am converted. i have a hemi with a tremec in it and if i was doing it again it would be one of these, and its o/d.

rear end i went a new dana 9" with 3;90-91? and in hindsight it could of been 4;10 with the o/d.

 tranny--www.cpttransmission.com

good luck and enjoy the hp. puts a smile on an old mans face. lol  mine is 823hp on pump gas. its the one on the mag cover.

Remember to use the correct flywheel, the 572 is externally balanced like the 454. A friend pull the 502s out of his boat and dropped in a pair of 572s. They didn't last long.

The ZZ 502 is a much better street motor than the 572, and the low deck fits easier. The 620hp motor has a really large hydralic roller camshaft that limits RPM before the engine really gets rolling (floats the valves because of the heavy lifters, and you can't use a lot of spring with the hydralic lifters), yet is too big to be a decent street driver because of the low vacumn and nasty idle.

Both motors are actually pretty underrated. I have seen them both on the dyno, and the zz502 usually is the 530-540hp range and the 572 usually ends up around 630-640ish.

E-Rod LSA.biggrin  Plug and play 551 torque.

502 works nice. These crate engines are really the way to go.

This 502 Beaumont I did has been sold , but I can get you a ride/demo in the ZZ454(with a 502 cam) Chevelle in a couple of weeks if you like.

Both of these cars are running built 700R4's. There is a killer trans available from GMPP at your local dealer. Once you've delt with a programmable trans, you'll be hesitant to go back.

That was going to be next choice, the 572 sounds like fun,but the ZZ502 sound better for installation and drivabillity.Maybe a funny car engine on nitro might be o.k. too, We do things a little excessive here at Redneck Rydes lol :)

I like your thinking, power is GOOD. The torque that most big blocks make will break stuff, been there.
Big car with traction will test the driveline, overbuild for the abuse sessions.
Research the overdrive trannys because from what i hear there are a very few that will stand up to punishment.

(slightly) interesting story regarding an Iraqi Taxi drag car formerly owned by someone I know. When they stepped up from a "back half" Malibu to a full chassis Vette, he advertised the Malibu on-line. Someone from the States was interested in it. Well, turns out (while researching the shipping, transfer of ownership, taxes to be paid etc etc) they found out that the States refused to allow the car to be sold to an American. The owner and the buyer both stated that the car would not be titled for street use and would only be used as a drag car ... didn't matter, no entry - no way - no how.  edit:  I should add, the car did sell but to a Canadian.

Canada can be strange like that too. A neighbour (buys and scraps junk cars) bought a really nice condition/low miles Toyota something or other (can't remember the name) .... story was the owner drove it up from Texas when he moved to Canada. When he tried to transfer the ownership from American to Canadian, he was refused due to that particular model being "inadmissable to Canada". I thought my neighbour was just pulling my leg, so I did some research on the 'net ... turns out he was right. For whatever "safety" reasons, regardless of the fact that the car was legal in the States, Canada would not allow it to be titled and driven in Canada.

I have imported a few cars in my day and there are some cars that can't be imported into Canada, mostly due the seatbelts and bumpers.Iheard someone tried to import a 2002? Thunderbird and is was not allowed because it had foglights in the bumper, another was a 1990 buick lesabre, cause seatbelts were in the door and no safety catch,I have never heard of Malibus not being able to go into the states, maybe the Iraqi Taxi stigma played a factor?

Before Aug '08 you could not import a Holden built '04-'06 GTO, or a Mitsubishi EVO. It's not that they would'nt pass the saftey standards, it's that they were never submitted for testing.

I went to a dealer in 1984 to buy an El Camino SS, no deal, '84 -'87 not available in Canada.

Lots of instances where vehicles available in the US are not available or allowed here. And vise versa as well I'm sure.
