Pulled Iraqi Taxi out for a spin,got 2 kms south on Hwy 28 and got pulled over,wanted to know why I had a historic plate on My car,said it was an 81 which is over 30 yrs old and he said that if I wasn't going to a car show that it was illegal to run that plate,so I said I was doing a test drive to check for leaks cause the car was sitting for about 6 months,and for a ticket of $132.oo for ilegal use of plate I was told to take it straight home.I am going to get rid of ALL my cars and sell my house and live in My trailer somewhere else,I guess i will have to go to court for this one and I will win but boy am I FUC&ING pissed,I have T shirts and underwear older than this Officer,

I don't know about any other areas around the province but in this area the OPP care only for the revinue from traffic tickets it takes hours to get them to come for a breakin or other desturbance and some times they just tell you to come to the office with the details next day .They are like the MOE just in it for the money and to hell with anything else.We had a car stolen and reported it to the OPP,two hours later the Peterborough cops called us to report the car found and the theaves in jail on lots of charges,thanks we said.An hour later the OPP showed up to take the report .Thanks we said its already taken care of.Priorities I guess. Here is the info regarding historical plates.

(OREG 628)
“historic vehicle” means, a motor vehicle that,
(a) is at least 30 years old,
(b) is operated on a highway in parades, for purposes of exhibition, tours or similar functions organized by a properly constituted automobile club or for purposes of repair, testing or demonstration for sale,
(c) is substantially unchanged or unmodified from the original manufacturer’s product, and
(d) does not have attached to it year-of-manufacture plates

Looking at the pic of your car, is that a firefighters strobe light on the dash??

I've never had historical plates because of those limitations.
I did have collector car insurance for one year, but found it wasn't worth it based on the limitations similar to the historical plate criteria, not to mention the possibility of not being covered if you are proven to fall outside of the criteria mentioned. I do like to drive the cars - mostly to car shows and events, but sometimes to work, or maybe to grab a loaf of bread on a Tuesday evening. The savings just don't over power the limitations for me, but to each their own.

Why is it that when you get "caught' doing something you shouldn't, "It's always the other guys fault, or he should be doing something else,or He's an "A-HOLE"!!! That car never came with "big fat tires or those rims, push bar & strobe lights!! This is the same as guys with RAT RODS or Hot Rods running those plates!!! If this keeps up those plates will dissapear for the people that qualify for them!! & it appears that the police are catching on to the ileagal use of them, likely from complaints from Legit owners!!!!

I just noticed that your 1964 Catalina has Historic Plates on it,I didn't now that Pontiac put Cragers on their cars in the 60's,have you ever had any problems with the cops? It is a great looking car,Did it ever sell?

My Catalina org. had 8 lug wheels until a drum cracked & I was unable to find a good usable replacement. I checked with MOT & they said that "if that was the only change" It was still 'reasonably unchanged' from stock!!!I was able to locate a set of 5 stud 5X5 b/drums. Yes I Still have it, have a possible trade coming when the other car comes out of storage & we both agree to do it. Trade still costs a "TON" of $$$ as you have to pay tax on the appraised value even though NO $$ CHANGES HANDS Yes this Prov. is a rip off on taxes but cheating others out of using something that was brought in spefically for the Historic Vehicle owners just to save a couple of bucks & think you 'screwed them" isn't right!!!IMOP Notice the Torpedoback has reg. plates!!! Too many mods. to be anywhere near "as near as stock as possible" so " I pays the piper" or the "DYKE" for a NON stock automobile!!!!!

Turned in by legit plate owners,I am starting to think there is a new meaning to the term RAT rod.Maybe these legit owners will start on the Farm plates next,or maybe the guy with the Leaf plates isn't a true fan,or tax evasion,or the MOE should check for baned pestisides, because afterall it is the law.Some need to relax a bit I think.Live and let live if someone finds a way to save a few bucks good for them if they get caught well you pay.We have all had speeding tickets and nobody likes them either and I doubt when you get one your thoughts are "well done officer I deserved that ,no don't knock it down hit me full amount" Ed

LOL :) I don't mean to ruffle the feathers,but I figured that since it was over 30 years old and it does have gm wheels on the Bu it would be O.K. to run Historic.I had a friend stop by today driving his corvette with historic plates and he is a local police officer and I asked him what he defines what would be sutible use of Historic Plates and he said if it is over 30 yrs old and looked close to stock there should be no problem.H e said the officer probally did not know who I was { retired FF] and said he shouldn't issue a ticket {warning would be appropriate} The officer is new on the force and will be Talked to. Don't sh{t where you eat.. I do love the look of the 8 lugs,they are very hard to find, The new " Dyke of Ontario" is going to fix everything for us car guys,No more E test,moe inspections,and more gay marriages Great,, maybe we need more lesbian lovers. I think the only fair thing for the goverment to do is change the historic plate to trailer Queen and make the driver wear a dress and gold chain to boot. Its prity much inposible not to break the rules they set out and still drive. myself i run comercial plates on my truck and save as much on parking each year as the plate cost. As far as those with no balls and feel its nessasary to rat people out because thier wife beats them. they should hookup with big pete on the T O rat board . frankly if I get a ticket right or wrong I go to court. Always have always will even if I lose it will still cost them more the the fine. The system relies on SHEEP to make a profit.

Went to court today,Junior did not show up,threw out my fine,no charge to me.asked if I had the car with me,said I did The crown came out and said cool car and did not feel there was a case anyway cause the car was 30 years old and I was test driving it.I asked if I should change my plates he said drive it the way it is and don't waste thier time,I said tell Junior to learn how to identify what is ORIGINAL and not.Then he told me that he should have known who I was and not to bother me again.OK dokee..
