A buddy asked me to help him find a used enclosed aluminum car hauler. White is preferred with an escape door. Has to look good and be in really good shape. No dings or rust (frame). Has to fit a 67 Malibu so I'm thinking 7' X 16 or 18' rannge. Set up for hauling cars would be good.
Might be kinda tight at 16x7. Here is a photo of my Nova inside a 8.5x20. I rented it to pick up my car from the states and found it a little to small so I purchased a 8x24' instead and find it perfect with some space to get in front of the car and along the sides. The flat front on the rented trailer worked like a big air brake and my GM 1500 pick up had a really hard time pulling it in any kind of wind (empty!) so if he can find a bubble front. v-nose or lowboy trailer I would recommend. Drivers side man doors are nice as well I find. You can get in and out without having to use a winch or trying to climb in/out through the window. If it is just being used for hauling and storage a low boy trailer is also nice for reduced wind resistance, gas milage, towing and parking/storing in tight places and under trees. The back door on mine (red) has a 5' high rear door opening 5'10 interior and the Nova fits in nice but you have to tilt your head a bit when inside. Hope this helps...someone
Thanks, I wasn't sure of the size. Maybe 8.5 X 20 would be good for him. I've seen ones with an escape door right near the drivers door of the car. They are pretty slick for getting in and out.
I know what you mean about the wind resistance on a flat front trailer. I picked up a prowler in cornwall in a borrowed trailer and man did I use a lot of fuel and the truck/tranny was always working hard.
With the car in the 20' trailer the front bumper of the car is just past/equal to the side door opening and if I remember correctly there is not much room to get past the front fender to strap the car down. If you notice in the picture with the car in the trailer for the car to sit level it has to be past the beavertail of the trailer. I'm sure it could sit back a bit to give more room at the front but it will be on the beavertail up slope in most enclosed trailers. The 67 Malibu is a much bigger car than my Nova as well. 20' would definately work but don't expect much extra room to work on the car if needed.
