Folks, I'm curious what the colour of the wire is from the coil to the distributor on most old cars. It's white on my old Volvo but loops through the back of the tach before going to the distributor. What's the common colour for this wire on older north american cars? Thanks, Fred
i think GM is green or brown. i think on most domestic cars the ground is a darker colour to indicate that it is indeed a ground where live or hot wires being +12v are bright like red or orange
Poncho, You are absolutely right about my tach being an inductive pickup Smiths unit. They must have been well made because it still works. I asked the question about wiring colours since I'm making some CD ignitions and the original colour used that went to the points from the CD box was green on the units made in the sixties. Given that green is used as well as other colours for the normal connection I see no need to change the colour from the convention for CDs that was standard in the early sixties. Thanks to everyone for the responses. Fred
Volvo?? Is that from Ikea? come in a box? put it together at home? everything is hex key?

Thanks Henry. Volvos of the 1930s through to the early 1970s were actually SAE inch. The only thing on my car that is not inch, is the German made brake master cylinder. However, the gearbox is connected to the bellhousing with hex head bolts! Fred
