Nope. Told him to buy gas mig and he did. A lincoln 180
Im trying to explain to him about. "leasing tanks"
He' having a hard time understanding the NEVER. NEVER PLAN
Never own it. Never stop payin for it
Yeah, I was kinda of confused when he posted about buying "rolls of mig/flux" !! I really don't know why they still sell that crap??
Here's my take on leasing vs buying tanks;
If you only plan on welding once in a while, then buy your tank. You'll end up paying more per cubic meter of gas (3+ times as much) but not having to pay the yearly fee may off-set the cost. If you plan on doing lots of welding, lease the tank. You will be paying a yearly fee, but the savings in gas costs will out weigh the lease.
I own 5 tanks, but lease my large argon tank because that's the one I use the most. The tanks that you can actually own cost about $180 to buy from your gas supplier, but what I do is buy them from flea markets. It doesn't matter what type of gas, or from which supplier the tank is from. As long as it's the small sized tank, any supplier will exchange it for whatever you want. I saw a C02 tank at the Stirling market going for $40 and was tempted to buy it, but I have enough already.
Here's an example of gas costs;
My large argon tank I rent for $40 per year, and costs about $100 to refill. It's holds around 340 cubic feet !! If this were a small purchased tank, I would save on the yearly fee, and it would cost about $50 to refill. The problem is that the tanks that you can buy are only about 60 cubic feet !! Do the math !!

Right ya bunch of beaver munching, moose blowing, eskimo banging, igloo building rednecks! enough of yer nonsense!
I don't get the coupe (pronounced "coo-pay" by the way, not "coop") home till the end of the month, then the fun can begin.
Bought a Lincoln 180 welder on special at TSC the other day (thanks Glen for the heads up), and it even came with a bonus pack of two full rolls of mig/flux, welding gauntlets, chipping hammer and wire brush.
I need to convert the garage (pronounced garr-idge) to the higher voltage for the welder, and my brittish (more powerful than yours) tools. I think Hemikev knows a guy that knows a guy.
Will hopefully get ownership for it next weekend at Rockton, and maybe some other bits n pieces, axles, steering, wheels, rad, seats, lol, you know, the little things.
There's a nice wee phrase I remember from Glasgow... "Away outside and throw $hite at yersell"

I sure hope Glen didn't tell you to buy a flux core MIG ???
I get my tanks from TSC...pay a one time deposit and just exchange it when I need to...only pay the price of the gas. Also, you can return the tank and get your deposit back if you ever need to.
Linde has tanks on sale, I have bought my own tanks oxy, acet. and mig gas one time expendenture for as long as you own the tanks . pay only to fill them . Leased for years,biggest waste of money ever. Especially when not in use.
As for the wife, no comment without the presence of my attorney!!
Spoken like the one who wears the pants in the family
When I had my shop I owned my own bottles mig,oxy,act and that was great for a while then they said couldn't fill them anymore some regulation they were only good for so many years so then I started renting, it was a tax right off anyways but about a year later the place I was getting them from went broke and a new place took over for the area and said the old place never keep very good records and anyone that brought bottles in to be refilled were conceded their own so that was the end of my rental never did get another bill
off track a bit but it was funny as hell. the other nite i had some guys drop by the shop and the one guy is from scotland and been here about 2 yrs. his nephew was with him and he has been here about 4 days visiting. when those 2 guys were talking to each other you couldn't understand a darn thing they were yakking about. another guy who has been here about 15yrs had to translate to me what they were discussing. it was funny at the time. lol
