The reality has finally hit. The dragstrip is in operation.

Yesterday, (friday) was "Test and Tune",, Today at noon was the "Grand Opening" With all the dignitaries, staff, etc in attendance.

Great Weather , Tons of people, Lots of cars,  This is turning into a great well designed track, a real bonus for all the northern racers, and a great place to visit, a great event park,  A real tribute to all the "Blood, Sweat, Tears , and Frustrations these guys went through to "FINALLY"  Be able to hold the "Opening Ceremonies".

A very emotional time for everyone involved!!

No pics, C'mon man! Great to hear, I'll be going north (Timmins/Hearst/Kap) at some point in time this summer and would love to stop in at the "NEW STRIP". Congrats to all involved and nothing but best wishes.

In the second last group of pics , (with the turbo'd Honda,) You can just see the roof of "FastChevy's" daughter's small block powered Monza.
The black unlettered dragster was just bought by a father and son team from Liskeard, that is a 4 second rail, they got it from North Carolina.
Heck of a thing to start learning on, but the son is slowly learning.

By the looks of the numbers on the windshields, this must be a 1/8 mile track. True??

1/8th mile , yes. no 4 second cars yet as this is their first weekend open , but there was cars into the high 5's.
Big Block full bodied 71 chevelle from Pembroke ran a 124 mph, which is certainly decent.
As with any totaly new track, a number of "Blips" showed up in the timing system with power surges messing up the computors.
Interesting that the older lad that came to set up the timing system for IHRA, was from "Kentucky", and he had a hell of a time getting across the border into Canada to get here, creating a delay that required the local provincial and federal members of parliment to have to intervene to get him cleared to get him up here and set this up.

The older lad you are refering to is Tom,from TSI.He was at STThomas Raceway Park to do the complete re- wiring of the timing system and score boards 3 weeks ago He had the same problem getting across the boarder and held him up for three days.disbelief 7 days of work had to be done in 4 days.

Thanks for the pictures Janice and sasquatch! Will miss them Northern Racers. smile

Wondering if he has an apprentice learning his trade to take over when he retires?
