Ran across one today in a mid 80s F150 behind a L 6 just wondering if any one has used one in a A or 30s rod. Shifter placement looks to be the same as the early fords dam near under the dash. divorced bell house with overdrive. hydraulic clutch with external slave . I had one in a service truck around that time and cant remember anything bad about it . I know their are better choices out there dodge and chev offer something similar to the mid 90s but its always a compromise between  placement and function. Just thinking this would fit fairly well behind a flatty or a mild street engine and still give you O drive. Thoughts?

Dont remember a huge drop between 2 and 3 acted much like a regular 3 speed in the lower gears . They did make a 170 fs  before this one cast iron case rear shift . This had the aluminum case top shift and was fords version of the My6 . gear ratio was offerd in two ranges

1st: 3.01 / 3.25
2nd: 1.78 / 1.92
3rd: 1.00 / 1.00
4th: 0.79 / 0.78
Rev: 3.01 / 3.25

Just looking with 411 rear end the split shouldnt be two bad. (for a 3 speed) As I said earlyer as with the my6 for regular street use it looks to be a fairly simple upgrade with minimal cost to get lower rpm at highway speeds and still retain the stock look.

looked up the my6 A883 ratio

1st  3.09

2nd  1.76

3rd   1.00

4th   0.73

Is this like most trucks that have a huge rpm change from 2nd to 3rd? I know there are some that shift just like a car 4 speed but I can't remember which ones.
