Most have heard about the brutal heat wave in the south and south western US, but last night on the news i heard that in california the temp had hit 115 ( i think that was Farenheight being in the USA,) but today in a place called of all things "Furnace Creek" California, temps were expected to hit a high of 128 !!!
If you take I-15 out of Vegas and head 90 miles SSW towards Barstow California, you will pass through a town called Baker. It is the southern entrance to Death Valley. That town has the worlds largest thermometer at 134 feet (41m). I have seen that thermometer at 115F at 3am, 122F at 3pm (our time). Record temp recorded in Baker was 125F (51.7c). I have been up through Death Valley a couple of times and I will say this: I don't care what they say about it just being a dry heat, this fat bastard was melting!!!! You can walk across the parking lots and feel the asphalt move beneath you! Record temp for Death Valley was set back in the 1913. Temp was 134F (56.7c) Furnace Creek is about 30 miles NNW of Death Valley.
