blowing fuses!!!!!

got the tranny back in the 46 and went to start it and pop goes the starter fuse. ...checked all wires and none are bare ,pinched .....I did do a wire cleanup on the wires going to the starter but they are all ok....now I'm wondering if its a shorted starter solenoid..the solenoid doesn't even engage......its a 350 chevy btw.

any thoughts?

Dennis

I have never seen a fuse used on a starter.....I take it you have the "S" wire fused for some reason

^^70c!!!! Get out of there quick! It's not safe in there!!!!

My shop is currently 24*c and temps are gradually falling overnight. it's not bad with a fan blowing and the dehumidifier running.

Dennis, can you turn it over by crossing the terminals on the solenoid with a screwdriver?

its weird since it was wired with a 15 amp fuse by a auto electric tech  for years and now it fails.......I never touched anything...but will be wiring it directly now.

I removed the starter and tested it and it works fine.

Tomorrow night I'll rewire it .

at least I have AC , beer fridge and hd satellite tv in the garage...biggrin

after running a new wire from the switch to the solenoid I discovered that the original wire was caught between the under dash guage bracket and the dash which musta grounded causing the fuse to blow. I had just installed the oil guage and never woulda thought that would be the cause!
