One of the members on this board left the following post a few months ago when I was looking for a place to send a pair of bumpers. A few of us replied asking for the name, place and contact information for "my buddys brother" but nothing ever came back. ?? I was really looking forward to "dirt cheap" pricing. ??

send them to manitoba, my buddys brother has a chroming outfit there, dirt cheap compared to ontario due to the regulations they have here.

I goggled re chrome shops for the Western provinces and made a few phone calls. The cheapest I found was in Edmonton -- sorry I don't have the name now as I ended up taking my bumpers to the All Ford Show at Carlisle and left them with Tri-City Plating from Tennessee. They were a lot less money than anything I could find in Canada and we were going anyway. They will be done for Fall Carlisle. Another excuse to make the trip down.

ok. i am calling some chrome shops in the GTA. there are many actually. what all questions do i ask these guy's. i know nothing about the process or what i should be asking. i am not looking for show quality but would be happy with oem quality. they are the front and rear for my 67 XL. i can have my truck deliver and p/u when finished. stay tuned for updates. thnx

i have got these names from previous posts. jim's chrome, scarborough--new toro plating, concord--mayfair plating, toronto

First thing , can they fit the part in there tank

can they strip the old chrome off

Do they buff the part before rechroming. If it dont look like chrome before they put it in the tank it won't when they take it out.

update-
i called 5 or 6 places and have decided on jim's polishing & buffing in scarborough. i chose them primarily due to their ability to answer my questions with confidence and plainly. they have been doing this for 35 plus yrs and i talked to the owners grandson, james. i kinda liked that aspect in today's world. i was upfront saying i knew nothing of the process and was just shopping around. some of the calls i felt i was being hustled and some you couldn't understand the answers on a couple of levels. price took a couple out of the picture and one wouldn't answer up front on whether they did it in house start to finish. quoted price was 700.00 to 900.00 per depending on condition. they are going up on thursday with my toronto truck. approx 4 wks wait time which i thought long but the proof will be in the pudding.
x-being a one yr only item sure limits your choices. i had a hard time just finding good blanks to send in for chrome. with that note, i have a 67 galaxie front blank suitable for chrome i would part with. the guy had 2 of them for the price of one.
the back one was suitable for a driver but would be out of place with a new one on the front. it goes now to.

-

i guess i should start a build thread on this car.

I have been dealing with Jim's polishing for the past 25 years and their product and service has been exceptional. There were jobs in which I took nothing larer then a serving spoon and at other times a bumper. No problem in any case. They are a busy shop for a reason, they do excellent work. The wait is worth it.

thanks for the input neighbor. i guess my due diligence and gut feeling paid off maybe.  every once in awhile you get lucky. as i said, the concise and understandable answers to my  questions, their longevity and talking to the owners grandson pretty much swayed my decision.

i am pretty sure i have seen that cutlass of yours around, nice ride. i had one for a brief period in the day, convertible, light blue with a white top and interior. it met a sad ending. i was playing with the carb to get it to stop leaking and it seemed fixed. hood down and started it but a fire broke out under the hood and i couldn't open it with the flames coming out through the grill. someone had called the fire dept and it took them one swoop with their big axe to open it and foam it out. too late the aluminum had started to melt and the wiring was toast, literately. back then you just scrapped it and got another car. you don't see many of them and when i do see one i give it a good look, dejavue thing.  nice car.
