We made it to St. Marys... And on top of that I got a job @ the stratford festival. so I'm settled, you'd say.

My old '49 is scheduled to arrive from Calgary next week.

I've got 3 old cars, the 49 dodge special deluxe, a 1976 BMW and 1976 mercedes. All in reasonable shape.

First off though I'd like to get the 49 certified and whatnot in the next month or two. My main concern is

finding a mechanic who is friendly to old cars and isn't going to bend me over the barrel. Any suggestions

are appreciated. Mechanically/physically the car should pass, I went through the certification list before I moved

and addressed anything I thought might be an issue, my main concern is those guys who see you in a bind, bringing

stuff in from out of province and wanting to bend you over...

Soon as the '49 is here, I think a local (london/stratford/st.marys) area meet-up is in order.

Glad to see a HONEST answer on the Safety!!! Too many vehicles being "done' by "blind " garages, especially some of the Rat Rods I see at shows !! I know this will open a "CAN of Worms" but some these POS shouldn't be on the road!! Bad welding, holes in floor, firewall, improper seats[if any] no E brake, etc. the list is a mile long on "infractions" Then they put a "HISTORIC" plate on them too BOOT!!!!!

Yeah, thanks! It was funny as I was coming from YYC, I had these folks on the phone doing phone interviews. I arrived on a  friday 5am due to some transcanada highway crash, and interviewed 1pm same day. Not bad cause I got the job. lol

Hey Pete:

I have owned many of what you would call Rat/Hot rods and customs. And I can assure you I would not hesitate to put any of my cars through a full M.O.T inspection any day of the week. When I get my cars certified they are done properly. Lets not judge all cars and owners by their cover. I know that I have seen some crap out there too and just not Hot Rods or Rat Rods. And yes some should not be on the road and that goes for daily drivers too. Just sayin  biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Modfather, yes there are some "really" well done Rat Rods out there & not to "paint' them all with the "same brush"!! But some are just "DOWN Right" POS that should NEVER have been put on the road!!!! Saw one at a show that had 2 "pillows" on the floor for "seats" ???? more holes in the f/wall & floor, HUGE air gaps in door, plexi-glass for a w/shield [that was impossible to see clealy out of], & the "fumes' from engine must have been awfull, coming in the holes & gaps around the doors,+ it had HISTORIC plates as well, & that just "BURNS" my A$$ when I see that!!!

Yes I hear you on that and I agree. There was one at a show over in Woodville and two of my friends that have rat rods told the guy he was insane as he had two kids with him sitting on coolers in the back.
