Talking to a buddy from the falls today , he has a 62 235 points setup. Good spark from the coil(new ) weak or no spark at the plug(new points, condenser , cap, wires,plugs). now heres the twist if he pulls the plug off the block he gets a good sharp spark between the plug body and block. coil is hooked up right power in + and - to distributer. Im thinking distributer grounding out ? thoughts.
I guess what I'm about to write will make no sense but here goes. I had a similar experience long ago with a 283. If I pulled the coil wire out of the coil and held it about a half inch away, it would run smooth with a good spark. Once the wire was put back int the coil, it couldn't pull its way out of a paper bag. It turned out to be carbon tracking on the rotor grounding to the attaching screw and was fixed by replacing the rotor. I guess you could say it acted in reverse to reality.

Thanks Bruce , never ask about the rotor Ill pass it along. I do believe its working along the same lines as the old Harley's one coil feeds both plugs and fire at the same time but the one thats under compression will get all the juice. Not realy sure why or gave it much thought but thats the way it is.
I will almost bet the points or points lead is grounding in the distributor. Always go back to the last thing you have done and double check. It is usually the easiest thing not the most complicated.

Like i said, some people haven't the ability to diagnose things as simple as point ignitions, so they just rip it out and go purchase an electronic system to cure their problem.

I agree that some people don't have that ability, but for the few of us that do, common sense kicks in and we realize that there's absolutely no reason to use points other that the nostalgia of it.
I was giving a common sense answer, but it seems whatever I say it will be turned into a debate. If slim's Buddy threw a cheap electronic distributor in, he would most likely never have another ignition issue.
LMAO what the hell happened here somehow I missed this over the last few days . The only thing I know about the Amish is they don't flush . Very sad and disappointing. I really just threw the question out there as it was told to me cause its something i never run across and Not being able to meet up with the truck owner because of conflicting schedules I figured I would see if someone has run across this . So here is the update as I know for now .Opened up my hood at work had buddy take a look to see how it should be hooked up . 1st problem distributer is out 180 but all is not lost because so are the wirer's and the order is right so it should still run . so I start asking where the wires to the coil are coming from IE 12 v bypass from starter second from the on position of the key through the reducer on the firewall to the coil +. I gets a strange look and he says no just have the one coming from the starter,So thats where it stands for now until i can talk to him again But I'm sure power to the coil when its running will make a big difference i would think . So the next question that has me scratching my head is how the hell did it stay running. Really has got in me thinking because in the last few years Iv had the spade connector fall off the ignition switch 235 L6 HEI distributor no bypass Run till I shut it off then nothing until I plugged it back in. What are the chances it fell off twice when i shut off the key? Again the dim witted I just had another moment of enlightenment and figured why are you typing this crap when you can just go out and pull the wire off and see what happens. So seeing it getting dark and I have a bad habit of wirering everything with the biggest roll of whatever I have at the time which happened to be 10 gage red Ill do it in the morning and let ya know .
Update : stops dead just like it should. I dont like to have to think to hard so this is good . I have a feeling someone has done a hack job on buddys wiring at some point . will let you know when I get to see it in person
