The August long Weekend exodus has begun. Every noob that can't figure out how to work a ratchet strap is getting out the baling twine and attaching every mountain bike, mattress, canoe, grandmas, hockey nets, outboard motors etc that they can find in their garage and basement to the roof of their cars and driving 140 in the fast lane all the way to cottage country.

So take extra care and watchout for the other guy...cuz there is a good chance he's not like usguys

Have A safe long weekend!!! Enjoy

Glen:  That windshield thing is a really gray area..and trying to get a straight answer from an MTO guy is difficult..I have never worried a great deal about that unless it's a big crack that really does interfere with the drivers vision..hell a car can be saftied and pull out on the road and get a stone from a truck tire in less than a kilometer... I do not worry about a small star chip..Common sense and the spirit of the law come into play not ridged stupidity..I am the one writing the certification and if I feel it's safe with a small chip I will pass it ..and I have never in 30 years and a couple thousand safety's ever  had a ministry issue ....

I should add..The wordings says "that COULD interfere with the drivers vision..what the hell is that supposed to mean..looks like it leaves that pretty open to discussion..and that is why I don't get all pissy about a star or chip if they want none then they need to make that sentence much clearer in the manual...I would not refuse a safety for that reason..I worry more about ABS brakes..or Air-bags..they don't even mention them in the manual..and I can't refuse a safety certificate if they don't work..makes a star chip in the winshield seem pretty chicken **** eh!!

Us "No Fender guys" are always running on the edge.....

Section 66. (3) must have protection from excessive spray......I only drive when dry...but If I got caught in the rain.... and was pulled over

I would quote ...Section 66. (4) unless on way for repairs.....

I havent had to use that one yet....but...I keep that one in my back pocket for the day I am.....

just sayin....

I think...and its just me sayin.....if your car looks decent...and your not acting like a goof....and....heres the key....if your decent to the cop

Most of the time he will cut you some slack.

Must be nice to live in your world where you can afford to have everything perfict .I know a few people whos cars wouldn't pass cause of cracks in the windshield(not smashed just cracked)or a few rust holes. If they loose there car they don't get to work.Nobody willingly drives a sh-t mobile. We do what we need to do to get by.I wonder how many accidents are actually caused by cracked windows.I bet there are more accidents caused by people talking on cell phones than mechanical problems.I guess none of you would do that now would you.I don't have a cell phone so I am going to start a campaign to have the law changed so that if you are caught talking on a cell phone in your car the plates are hauled and the car towed for say long enough so that you can't afford the fees and you loose your car.Sounds fair to me.If it has no brakes or the wheels are falling of I agree, otherwise leave people alone.I have enough people pushing rules down my throat every day without having to hear it from wannaby enforcers. ED the majority, of the cars & p/ups that get their plates removed have no E-brake, holes in the floors, poor strg. componants, bad brakes, poor tires & trailers that don't meet the standards, & a cracked w/shield is ILLEGAL!!!! TOO!!!! + some have no insurance or a "valid Drivers lic. I wouldn't drive a vehicle with any of those "infractions" & wonder every time a car comes toward me on the road if "this is one THOSE"!!!! Willingly or not, if it isn't safe & won't pass a "REAL" safety,Insured, & not suspended Lic. then DON"T DRIVE IT!!!! Both my "old" cars have passed a 28 point NHRA inspection with "flying colours" not one thing found to be "wrong' right down to a "working' Emm. brake!!!& fire extinguiser in both vehicles!!! Many cars "failed" this inspection at both car shows I go to in W.V. & were advised to "CORRECT" the problems ASAP before they got pulled over. I just finished having to Frt. pads & rotors on my 2010 Burb & only has 48000 KM's on it!!!! So even "newer Vehicles" can have brake problems too!!! Pete

Somebody pee in your cornflakes this morning? or you just want to stir up something...

I sort of agree about the texting and cell phones..they need to get serious about that..but we have been waiting for 50 years for the Government to get serious about drinking and driving and it's still a minor offence really..at least I can still go out any Monday morning and gather up all the beer cans from my front lawn from the beer tours they still do in the country..if we can't stop them from drinking how will we ever stop texting,or talking on a cell phone..ever notice how many cops you see texting or talking on a cell I see it quite often...I never carry a cell phone Hell I am glad to get away from the stupid phone..How did we ever manage our life with-out one ??

anyway looks like it's gona be a super great week-end so enjoy and don't sweat the small stuff..drive safe and have fun life and the sunny summer days are slipping by way, way to quick..Have a great week-end .ED. and everybody..

I could be wrong...I often am but...

Doesn't the Motor Vehicle Inspection read as follows......

Under Glazing......

the windshield has any star, crack or stone chip in the area swept by the driver's wiper blade that could affect the driver's vision;

Does that not mean any star, crack or stone chip NOT in the area swept by the drivers blade is ok?

Just askin??????

Yes that is correct, but it's always rejected, due to the possibility to "spider web", and with a bit of body flex it could literally shatter. Once they have a crack or a chip the structural compatibility has been compromised.

I saw on the news last night, 70% of the transports pulled over had something faulty on them, and pulled off the road until the said issues repaired.

Talk on the phone while driving, A bullet to the frigging head simple as that, was almost killed today on my motorcycle, which I have been riding a bike for 35 years, because somebody decided to pull out in front of ME,I guess they thought talkiing on the phone is more important than paying attention to the road and your surroundings. Next time this happens,I will follow you to where you are going, and when you stop I will make you understand what paying attention to the road means. RFFR. DFWM..

"I saw on the news last night, 70% of the transports pulled over had something faulty on them, and pulled off the road until the said issues repaired."

i'm having a hard time chewing on that % number in todays world. over the past 20 yrs of having trucks on the road i have had only one pulled and it was a b/s occurrence north of tweed with his furthest stop at bancroft. f-550 ford. emergency brake light was on. the brake worked but the switch screwed up. driver said it wasn't on during his check but started flickering after he left tweed. he checked at the next stop and the brake worked proper so he carried on. also he charged the driver for no log book. there he sat with a truck load of meat on a hot day in the summer.
you don't or didn't need a log book inside a 160km circle just a saftey check report prior to starting your day. pretty much all the trucks get checked once maybe twice a year on the road except in and around the peterborough lindsay area. that truck and driver gets stopped fairly often in various locales in the area.
i'm not doubting you didn't hear 70% but i am doubting the source of the info. next time on the 401 7 out of 10 trucks you encounter shouldn't be there. scarey thought. can you imagine the size of the parking lot they would need at the scale house on a day they are doing inspections if they only inspected every 8th or 9th truck.
-
back to the stone chip issue. i had one of my sale's cars in this week for a repair for a chip at say the middle about the size of the end of a cigarette. they did the suction cup thing but you could still notice the chip spot. would this be considered repaired

If you get your chip repaired and it breaks again at that spot they pay for a replacment.
Keep your paperwork!
