Some evidence from yesterdays work. Had to work overtime at my day job so I lost half a Saturday but ...had my apprentice back home so I picked up a few hours. We had a couple problems: #1 the sandblaster needed some attention to get it working back to 100% -did that. #2 I know I am missing some parts...so we had to pull everything off the selves again to look- did that but didn't find what I was looking for.
With the sandblaster working better, Ben touched up the heater box parts while I took apart the brake assembly. I cleaned all the small parts that were galvanized and we painted the rest of the stuff either semi gloss black or bare steel.

The Apprentice and I put the assemblies back together tonight. Hoping to get them back into the car in the next couple nights. Still missing a box of parts .....still!

Ben and I put the heater box in and the brake pedal assembly. The heater box I think is in to stay but the brake pedal is in loose until the steering column is in for keeps. Plus the master cylinder actuating rod couldn't be found either. We then had to completely clean up the shop, move all the boxes and pack up all the parts so I could work on my brother-in -laws truck box. Back to some bodywork for a bit. Ben and I are also putting together an order list for parts from Summit and Chevy II only, and Hawks third gen Camaro supply so we can keep all the projects rolling. The plan is to roll right into the 67 Chevy II sedan this winter as well. Got to keep the watchers happy and the whip quiet. LOL

Hey Slab whats going on??? Hope you haven't fallen off the WAGON!!! (pun intended) Grumps and I are looking for updates!!!
The kid and I are wrapping up a few "must do " projects to clear out the shop. They aren't old stuff so I didn't take pics. Had to get my wife's mini van ready to sell which meant new rockers, some rust and dent repair on the hatch and a quick paint job on the hatch. A little spit shine too. The first guy to look at it snapped it up and it's gone! The next project is my brother in laws truck box. Got it from the wreckers for $200.00 but has lots of dents but no rust problems. So today I am out in the shop fixing dents and getting it ready to paint. This project is what funded the shrinker/stretcher and the bead roller purchase(good trade EH??). Ben and I also spent a couple nights or more, making a big list of what we need to order for all three projects. Some minor stuff to finish up the wagon and some major stuff to get the Camaro pretty much done(ball joints , tie rods , headliner, shift kit etc etc etc) And the project that I've mentioned briefly (67 chevy II) , I put in a big order for the parts for that. Everything from cam and lifters to shocks, ball joints etc etc etc. We are going over to see Greg(pandorasbox off Steve's nova site) in Batavia NY to pick up all the stuff this weekend coming up. Pretty excited about everything. Ben's 16 now and really wanting to get started. His first order of business will be figuring out the wiring harness to get that computer working. The wagon will be rolling good soon but I couldn't tie up a bay with it up in the air on stands until the other stuff got done. Then it's switch the oil pan and get the underside stuff done (brake and fuel lines etc etc) . Lots of good things coming up. Stay tuned!! LOL

Well we are back in the shop getting things done. But Saturday past we went on an adventure with John from this site to an old grave yard. We had a great time crawling around and over all the old wrecks. No Camaro's for Ben to check out but lots of other stuff. Came away with some treasures and so did John.
Thanks again John for setting us up to see that yard.
In the shop Ben's been working on his Camaro. The game plan is to start with what we believe to be the hardest part. Wiring and the Computer. So he is sandblasting engine brackets and we will be working the wiring soon by hooking up everything and getting rid of what is not needed.

Rich....you should have called.....I would have gone with you.....Looks like a better time than working on the garage!
It was rainy and wet but still fun. We had rubber boots and rain coats but our pants got soaked!!
John is a real expert at the "pickers game" and would give those TV guys a run for their money I bet!! He was in and under and through pretty well everything in there. LOL
JPB is John's handle on the site.. Great Guy!

No problem Rich, maybe we can go again sometime!

Ben didn't write that we are trying some detailing on the Cast Aluminum pieces by removing the casting flash and smoothing /leveling out the parts a bit. The V6 is not going to have a lot of fans (everyone says put a V8 in it and someday we might) but if it is clean and detailed out a bit it should get some second looks. Ben's budget warrants lots of labour(his own of course) and less out of pocket purchases. By sandblasting and painting everything he can ...he should reach this goal.

Great Job Ben and Welcome to the site. Perhaps you should start your own build thread to show your progress. If there are parts and pieces you need post up a list and don't be afraid to ask before spending cash. I am sure most here would gladly help out a youngster if they can. Keep up the good work. Regards Kurt

Yea Kurt ...that's Dad's fault. I posted his project in this thread just because. Ben said yesterday he was thinking of starting his own when he got more done but I guess it would be better in his own thread. When he comes back from his Mom's next week we"ll start one up and move his pics into it. You've been a big source of encouragement for him and I know he appreciates it as well as me. Thanks Rich

For what it is worth, that V6 will do just fine! Will save him some money on insurance, gas and parts. Main thing is he is getting into cars and he will know how to fix it. With all the work that he is doing to it, he will be more appreciative of it!

Hey Grumps. The creeper is actually still in the back of the neon, but thank you very much for it anyways. Ill put it to good use when the time comes!
Thanks Kurt for the welcome and the encouragement as well, just like my dad said. It will certainly help the drive in the long run.
I agree with you as well, Ziggy. By working through the car and putting all of the hard work into it, it certainly increases the appreciation value, not only for just my car, but all cars in general, because to get a car to the point of restored always takes hard work and dedication.
I don't need'em, just razzing ya. While I'm not one to talk about getting a project done, I'm sure that Kurt feels that those dollies will be under the wagon for a lot longer.
The dollies are out from under the car Olddude and I will be bringing them back pretty soon so I can stop in for a little breeze shooting.
Pictures to follow but the car is on stands with the hood and fenders back off. Switched the steering box and dropped the oil pan. New oil pan is painted and ready to go on. That little 283 looks perfect inside. I was thinking it might have surface rusted the walls but nope!! motor turns free and the guts are all shinny new. That motor was rebuilt and I put forged 9:1 pistons, Performer cam and lifters, new push rods, timing chain, heads were ported and polished with manly valves. It's not a rocket but it was built right and might have 5000 miles on it. Can't wait to hear some Vroom vroom.

Looks like a mess but I'm getting through it all. The next two big things will be the heater box and the controls as well as the brake pedal assembly.
Defroster ducks and firewall heat/sound deadener installed.
Be careful with those defroster ducks....they're not all they're quacked up to be!!! sorry, couldn't resist....actually, I did resist, but then I came back!
