Believe it or not, I don't currently have a rod.
Seems I never have enough time to build my own,
But I will be uploading lots of customers vehicle pics soon.
Just in the process of sorting them out.
Thanks,
Ryan.

Also word of advice ,Invoice every week So there is no surprises for them or you :)
Big builds can make you a credit union/financier pretty fast .You don't want to go down that road .

I've met a few dreamers in my time, but I do however take the time to speak with everyone. It is good to know what everyone thinks and I try never to judge a potential customer. FYN RYD Customs was in operation many years ago in Burlington, and I have decided to start in Durham, where I am originally from.
I appreciate the reply, and hope I can be of good service to people who need their vehicle taken care of.
We will be at autofest with a booth so if you are coming to the show, stop and say hi.
Thanks,
Ryan.

It was an awesome first week at FYN RYD Customs.

We got some work done on the 1941 Plymouth and had some time to build the motor and mount it on the wall.............

stay tuned as we will be starting on a pro street 1950 Anglia Roof chop.

yes lots of luck, the only way you can be if getting into this business is be hard, no excuses and get cash up front.  i also plan on getting into customizing in my shop asi have lots of room and pretty much all the equipment i wil need.  people who get custom work done usually dont get the concept that even the simplest tasks cost money.  as well dont let people store thier junk in your place forever, as i know from experience all too well

That's an ingenious way of keeping those Small block Chevys from leaking all over the floor.

I would call that balls to the wall brother...lol Another tip for you Ryan get healthy deposits and progression payments. When the payments stop so does the work, roll it outside and get on with the next one. When they bitch explain to them time is money, money is time. I have been down this road too.

Try to get at least half up front and have a signed work order describing the work.  The serious guys will do it....

The half up front thing never works because as a custom automotive shop, the work is billed out hourly, as things always change during the build. Whether the vehicle has unforeseen problems or the customer just simply changes what they want done.
Thanks.

From what you've said, you've run a shop before. Good luck with its reincarnation and I'd love to stop in some day when I'm in town.

I meant to add...you already know the ropes and pit falls.

I've often wondered what the market for this type of shop is around here...I used to have a dream...LOL

We will find out soon enough. My goal is to be the kind of shop that people can count on for the no BS type of approach. There are too many shops that fail their clients. I have always prided myself on my attention to detail and my brutal but very much needed honesty. I want people to be proud to be part of the hot ridding community.
Look forward to seein you at the shop.
Thanks.

I like FYN RYD's attitude! Most car guys have a horror story about their builder, and most everyone I've talked to has been taken for money, first guy I started with took 2000 bucks and my car, 7 months later nothing done! I call him DO BOY! gonna do this and gonna do that and don't do ****! After 3 shops I finally found the right guy, Rob Purcell and I'm very happy with what was done. In fairness to what has been posted by the shop owners, it takes time and money to get a good job done, if you don't have either leave your car at home. In the end It's a two way street, shop owner's check us out and we need to do the same!

Thanks for the reply, you're 100 % right.
I of course never like to take people's money unless the work that they are paying for has already been completed. Now I will add that I do arrange payment terms of a certain dollar amount for each customer. Say I will work on the vehicle until I hit an agreed amount, at which point the customer can come in, see where the time has been spent, and we can address any concerns. My main goal is not to make $1 once, but instead to make 50 cents from each referral that the customer gives.
Shops don't realize that it's easier to collect money when the customer is actually happy with your work.
I hope that I can continue to make a positive difference in the hot rod world for many more years to come.
Thanks.
