The body is a steel Henry,....After much decision...a chop was out of the question

So..we were scratching our noggins to come up with a neat looking cover for the pitman coming out cowl.....

Neil got busy and made a very cool,unique piece!

I love it

Regarding the comment of "Bump Steer", I am always up to learn something new as I am curious why there would be bump steer ?

Some people may advise of: steering effort, overly quick or slow response, however; the most important element to this steering set up would be equal pitman arm and steering arm lengths while setting the drag link as close to parallel, to the ground as possible.

Second, the box needs a strong mount tied into the frame and not just the cowl.

Ummmm, we have achieved all of the above......

Just wanted to show you guys my 32 ford build that is near completion at Candy's Hot Rod Supply.It's no secret Neil and I have become fast friends over the years and he has had my 32 from the start.

Plans were to build a good fun driver,.... well...i can't leave anything alone and the build has progressed into a great one.I owe Neil so much.. he has taught me a bunch.The build has been going on for nearly 3 years and we are hitting the finish line soon.

Folks who know me... know my affliction for early hems...so... it was just natural to have one for this car.....

the short version is it's a blown Baby Red Ram(270),5 speed,QC rear,Sprint car steering,..sprinkled with an abundence of speed goodies.

Here are some pics.......None in any particular order.....

originals are too iffy for what i wanted to do(And Neil of course!)

Amazing quality work

But I think you might end up with bump steer

The geomatry looks wrong to me

But. Cool outweighs a little bumpsteer

Again.. thanks for the kind words fellas..
Nope.. the geometry is dead nuts set perfect.
And take a look at all the inner structure supporting the steering inside the car.
Big Support... almost a second 1/4 inch plate firewall heavily tied into the frame.

at least its a real steel 32 and not a bass boat like 90 percent of the ones you see these days.  i love the guys that build or get built a 32 ford and not one part of the car is actually a 32 ford, plus they want like $45000 for it when they try to sell it

id bet its very easy to spend a lot more than $45g just building a nice glass car. quality paint alone can easily run $10g. add an interior, gauges, suspension, wheels tires, crate engine, trans, clutch, rad, a/c etc etc etc etc etc

a nice glass willys shell on its own can cost you $10g+ 

i wouldnt expect someone with $60g in their shop built rod to just give it away for $15g.

 

just saying not defending myself as ive got prolly 13g total in my ride with most part coming from scrap cars.

How did I manage to miss this thread for NINE days!!! Very nice build - I love a good authentic traditional rod build.

I realize you have your reasons Jeff, but C'mon...where's the rendering? I know there has to be a 2D version of an awesome Norwell print!

Hello Mike :  The Willys truck is still sitting in the garage, as I have collected front and rear suspension parts, motor, trans and rear end. This is actually good news, as I almost sold the Willys, then I came to my senses and sold other projects, as I just had too many.  I am now down to, two projects, the Willys and the nitro altered....

Once I get a little time between projects I will start on the frame for the Willys... Just like a model kit, I just have to glue everything together now !!!  The Willys will be the tow car for the altered !

Jeff :  Ummmm, chrome headers !!!

 Cool. I'm sure it'll be beautiful. I've been trying to get Gerry to finish the Willys sedan but he's the busiest guy in town and also got hit broadside by a little old lady which slowed him way down for months.

Some small updates Guys....
Candyman had fabbed up some great inboard headers... I did not want a lakestyle header on this project... a more clean look was in mind.
I had my good pal Rob give them a little extra clean up and the results are killer.Got the fuse panel Base all done and ready... Tiger Maple is a favorite of mine.
The frame and Body are still at the Painter.More updates soon.
