chances are that if one plug is rotten, other ones are too.
plugs kits are cheap and can also be purchased in brass so rusting is not an issue. plug kits can be purchased for something like $20 (or so). dont use Napa or other suppliers, hit up an engine rebuilding business for a cheap set.
gotta be careful you dont knock the plug into the block when you go to remove it.
what is the engine in?
there should be youtube videos available of removal and install so you get an idea whats involved.
one more thing, there are two more plugs at the back of the engine behind the flexplate/flywheel. either gotta pull the eng or the trans to get to them. hopefully you engine is in a t-bucket as that would make things a lot easier

Hey guys I need some help I have a pin hole leak and coolant is coming out on the front passenger side of my motor it looks like a plug is this a frost plug? if so how would you fix it? motor is a 1987 chevy 305 any help would be great
Short season left .At this point if you are going to pull it this winter anyway for a freshining why not just go with the stop leak finish the season then rebuild.I know some guys don't like temporary fixes but why loose the last month or two of the season.Have some fun then teardown in the winter. Ed
when in doubt ask the expert, if its just a pinhole as in a tiny little hole, take a screw with a rubber gasket or whatever, try that. if it wont hold then you can either get a temp plug which will hold for awhile or simply install a block heater, they fit good and have an o ring. if its on the front of the engine and eays to get at, i would go with an actual frost plug. problem is frost plugs can be hard to get in perfect if its an odd angle or the such.
Easiest way i found to remove them is to drill a hole in it, insert a strong screwdriver or better, a good punch and carefully pry it out.
As posted above be careful NOT to let it fall into the water jacket.
The cheapest thing to use for a temporary fix is black pepper- like the kind found in a shaker, as opposed to red, green, or yellow peppers found in the garden.

Buddy had a persistent leak in water pump area of his 396. Guy at Parts Source told him to try black pepper. He lost a sale for stop leak and the leak was cured. For how long? Hopefully until the end of the season.
Temporary fix is to release the rad cap enough so that it can not build up pressure. I drove an '88 Ford LTL that had a couple pin hole leaks in the rad. I removed the rad cap and cut the rubber off from around the cap and put the cap back on. Cap never made a seal and the pressure never built up. Was able to drive it from Dawson Creek BC back to Ontario with no problems.
