I see ads where the seller has running gear parts for sale. One term they use is "straight axle". In fact, the axle is not straight, it is a curved "beam axle". I was always led to believe a "straight axle" was one of those round tube straight axles, used on Gasser type cars. Right or wrong? Or am I just too old and being picky?

I see what you're sayin'. I see a "straight axle" as an axle with two wheels on it, that are not independent. One wheel goes up, the other goes down, regardless of it having a curved end going to the wheels hub.

actually most axles that are solid but have a drop on each end are reffered to as a drop axle, a straight axle is one with no drop at all, the curve makes no difference, i have a drop axle in my rat rod from a 55 chevy truck.  older ford axles are straight even though they have a curve.

Retired elevator and escalator mechanic. Everything has to be perfect.
And old and picky, too.
