Certainly not my cup of tea either. A close friend of mine and his wife went and were truly amazed at some of the vehicles. The photos they shared over 150 showed some very fine and rare cars others not so much. I suppose it is in the eye of the beholder, if it was not for the setting and the stuffiness I think I would have enjoyed just viewing the cars and not all that goes along with it at an event like this.

I once visted a friend who's dad had a collection of old Rolls and Bentlys etc, and they did nothing for me. But give them 60 years of ageing and some tastefull mods and I love them, lol. Maybe not a rat-rolls though eh

Stuffiness really did not apply to the quality of cars and their owners.  This was my first Concours show and I really did not know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised.  The cars were outstanding.  Cars that we never see at the cruise nites  and the shows we are used to.  The owners were just as proud of their cars as most of us are with ours.  Stuffy did not apply to them.

There were six classes that contained cars we are used to seeing, mind you, these were the cream of the crop and most guys on this forum would have enjoyed them.

Personally, I am not into a number of the cars that were there, but I sure do have a ton of respect for them and the history they represent.

As an entrant, we were treated very, very well by the organization committee.  It was the best show that I have ever been part of.  I will definitely be back next year as a spectator.  Well worth the price of admission.

WIll,
I have to agree with you. I look at places like Pebble beach, Amelia's Island, Meadowbrook, Cobble beach or Walkerville and most of the cars are WELL out of my budget range, but....but you have to look at, the lines, the materials, the fit and finish, the sometimes outrageous paint schemes, and the craftsmanship that have gone into the vehicle and it HAS to make you humble. I know a guy that has a couple of 30's Stutz roadsters. The number of pieces he has had to MAKE to put the car right is impossible to comprehend. In a lot of cases the parts are made just from a picture or a magazine shot.
I really don't care if the cars turn you on or not...you have to respect, the dedication, skill, talent, and sheer determination to build one of these right!

I like the cars all of the cars and most of the owners are nice people. I just am not into the venue of that type of a show. I will not wear a sports jacket or dress slacks and forget about the tie...lol I am a blue jean T shirt type and if that is underdressed then I am not going JMO biggrin

Andy, don't ever let your dress code stop you from enjoying what you like to do.  There were over 4000 spectators enjoying the cars on display and they were not dressed in jackets and ties.  This was not a "stuffed shirt" car show for only a chosen few.

This was a chance for everybody to see a different breed of classic cars, and yes most of the owners are very nice people.

They also own jeans and tee shirts, just like you and me.

I think when I saw the video and the judges well you know :) Perhaps next year if that is not the dress code. The folks that did go showed me some photos of some amazing cars or should I say Art Deco and that I would enjoy seeing in person.

Thanks for posting this Will, Interesting stuff.

The part i always enjoy about classic cars is the innovations many had, if not all of them , unique engineering.

Following are a few of the 55 cars that drove the 100km tour of Grey and Bruce County on the Friday (before the Saturday show)  The roadster picture with my friend and I might give you an idea what kind a day it was.  Most of these classic car owners do enjoy their cars by driving them and yes they can have it both ways.

Geeze guys from reading this thred its becoming hard to tell who the real snobs are.Classic v rod, shiney v rat,old v late model, everybody v tuner. Its getting really lame .It should be all of us v the government all the rest is is B. S. I guess some need to feel they are not accepted to be happy. The cars are beautiful and I would love to see more classics at the cruse nights and local shows, I wonder why they don't come out anymore.I guess its the cycle of things used to be a show would be full of lots of 20s and 30s squeekers, then there were 55-57 Chevys as far as you could see and next came the 60s muscle cars. Now rats seem to be the rage.Lots of trucks being built at this time I guess they are the next fad or maybe vans again.Funny how things go thru cycles. All I see in the above posts is a bunch of guys having fun with cars, seems to me thats just the way it should be. Good post Ed!! Anyone interested in Mechanical things which rods and rare cars are, should appreciate the design and engineering of any restored or un-restored old vehicles.

so a question [or 2] for guys who have attended Cobble Beach Concours .... as a spectator... do you just hop in your ride and head to the golf course... watch for signs.. drive in,, park... someone takes your admission... and then you look at cars, talk to people,, get some food etc.. take some pictures,,

or do you have to buy tickets in advance..?

how much is the admission at the gate?
is parking included?
is there food avail on site?

if I read it right,, there is no admission at the gate
they say,,, "General Admission tickets include complimentary offsite parking with shuttle service to the Cobble Beach Concours d'Elegance grounds."

"Off site parking on Sunday at the Bayshore Lumley Center in the back parking lot. Please see map. There will be a bus to pick guest up ever half hour"

so a pre ticket for 2,, shipped is $67.50

The old cars do come out as I have been on weekend tours at the Gilmore in Michigan, Lindsay, Odessa. A one week tour in Lancaster PA. and a one day tour in Port Hope. All this summer alone and have already booked a room for the Glidden Tour in NH. in 2016 for the week. I went to Bethany and Lake Front car shows to support the ACCCC car club and not one cruze. These events are much smaller but there are vintage tours with ACCCC, HCCA, Model T Club and HASC and if you are in the loop to know when they are. You will see some very different cars on these tours and Ed is right a lot of these cars are never seen as the owners are too old to be able to drive and enjoy them. This summer I was asked by two different owners to find them a driver as they wanted a drive in their vintage car and sorry to say one fellow passed away the day he asked me so it never happened. The other fellow was able to get his 1929 Packard roadster out and had an experienced driver to take turns when he got tired. Some of my shots over the summer.

And yes I will have a car this year at Cobble Beach.

The 08 Buick was driven by a 17 year old girl and the 07 Crawford by a 19 year old for the week. The US insurance companies are more lenient there than in Canada that is hurting the hobby here.

Jamie, I will try to answer your questions.  Please check the following web site for complete information - http://www.cobblebeachconcours.com/

Admission tickets are available at the gate.  I think they will be $40.00 each for the day.  They pre sell on line tickets at a reduced rate, but as of Sept. 1, the prices are increased for both on line and gate admission.  Buying advanced sale tickets on line is the best deal.

Parking is included at an off site location.  Buses will take you to the front gate and return you to the parking area when you are finished.  A volunteer will be on the bus to explain the layout and what you may expect to see.  With your ticket you will receive a book explaining the vehicle, who is the owner and a history on the vehicle.  This book is very well done.

Yes, food is available on site.

There are approximately 20 different vehicle classes with the average about seven or eight cars per class - (150+ vehicles round figures)

This is a charity event with proceeds going to support The Sunnybrook Hospital for Research, Education and Equipment.

Is this show worth $40.00 per ticket?  In my opinion "YES", but I know it is not for everybody.  You will see the "best of the best" in vehicles that you will not see at any other Car Show and what is even better is the most of them are Canadian Cars.

I think it definitely is worth going once and then you can decide if it worth returning.

Joe, I look forward to seeing you there.  Please let me know what class you are in or look me up.  I will be the class host in the HOT ROD class.

John
