On another forum I'm on I bought a used heater control off a guy State side. He tested it and said it was ok. I sent him $55 plus $25 to ship. It arrived looking ok so I painted it up and installed it. Car has 600 miles on it and its leaking. Has pretty much from the start. When I sent him an email he said he tested it and "what do you want me to do".
If I send it back to him its going to cost me another $25 so I'm into it for $50 in shipping for a $55 part.
Me too!
As my old friend who was a great guy with only grade 4 education, who ended up holding 22 mortgages for people, (not bad eh?) Lol, anyway when he got stung by someone, his favourite phrase was:
"Lessons from the school of life". (Truer words that fit!)
Well, me bein a Dutchman, I would try the old black pepper thing, and see if that fixes it. Had a 01 Ford F150 that developed a leak in the rad, put in some pepper, and still worked for another 200,km when we got rid of it. just sayin ...............

They are sealed units. I'm going to pull it off and see if it might be one of the pipes. I think it's the shaft that goes thru the case to control the flow.
I'm sure your talking about a water control valve not the core so in that case I've bought a new one that was close to the same dementions and switched the guts over but still a crap shoot and a good chance of breaking off the tabs. He might have put it under pressure but never put it under water to check for bubbles so I'm with the rest of the guys and you'll have to chalk it up to one of those things.
One thing I have learnt over the years is yes many things do not get rebuilt just turfed to the garbage can. If a part is hard to get I would much rather see if I can fix it before tossing it. I know some do not have the technical ability but for those that do it is most times worth it. Not only that for me it is that little bit of satisfaction of doing it and succeeding
