The Currency Act and The Canadian Criminal Code clearly state that no person shall melt down, break up or use otherwise than as currency any coin that is legal tender in Canada.

Well, I guess he gets a free pass now that the penny is put out to pasture. Lucky penny!

i find it amazing that not only the insurance company is ok with a car thats been so heavily modified they are also promoting it, from my experience most people who have modified thier cars have nothing but trouble getting insurance due to the changes that have been made.  perhaps now is the time to build custom stuff if the insurance industry is willing to accept it.

Maybe the insurance companies realize that not all modified vehicles are built to the same quality!!  If your experience shows that people are having difficulty getting insurance, then maybe you should take a closer look at what type of vehicles they are trying to insure. This "Rat Rod" craze has been a cancer to our hobby mainly because most (not all) are pieces of $hit that should not be allowed on public roads. Albeit, they are cool to look at as an artistic statement, but shouldn't be licensed. I've also seen a lot of Hot Rods, Street Rods and muscle cars that also fall into this same category, but it's the low budget backyard built cars that cause all the problems. It all boils down to the capabilities of the owner/builder, and clearly there's a few here that would be further ahead purchasing a car that was safely built by someone with a bit of know how.
