I know your not going to like my reply/opinion but here it is.....
This hobby is going to die unless we open our minds to new and upcoming talent and workmanship whether we like it or not.
He obviouslly employed many people by the paint(body shop),stereo shop, tire and rim shop and so on.
I personally would not do that to a car even if I had the money. However some would not drive my car either.
But on the flip side of the coin...do-whop has to change. The old school mentality of only old cars is killing the hobby.
What young people are doing to cars now far exceeds my mechanical ability and knowledge. And it takes an open mind and inginuity.
The lawn chair crowd has to change. Sorry needs to be said. I am tired of going to car shows and tripping over lawn chairs taking up parking spots.
People sit there, baby sit there car like its camping. Why attend a car show if you not going to walk around and look at someones blood sweat and tears?
I am also sick to death of do whop music. I have heard it for 25+ years attending car shows and cruise nights. I dont hate the music.
I just heard enough. Change things up a bit. No one is saying play rap or death metal. But something from singers not on old age pension.?
Have cars shows/cruises more open to newer cars or even a section for tuners? This will invite and encourage young people to attend, Get intrested in the hobby
and continue the hobby. My kid goes to shows but plugs his ears most of the time because the music is played way to loud. He says none of his friends would
come because the music sucks and nothing new is allowed. I can't say I blame him. I personally see the hobby dying off. Its a rich mans hobby. Locally I see
imports and some newer(challengers, mustangs etc) parking and having their own mini cruise. I am sure if we keep an open mind, we can sure learn alot from
them. We do not have to like what they do, not do they like what we do but its still all of us being car guys is it not?
If we want this hobby to grow and continue....perhaps we should keep an open mind. Whether we like it or not....
If we can't takes stabs at each other about the types of cars we own, and expect everyone to be politically correct, then the hobby might as well be dead !! The rivalry between brands has been around since cars first came out, and I rather enjoy it.
I see your point about car shows being all the same, with the same boring music and such, so I will be looking forward to next year when someone does something about instead of complaining about it. I can almost see the large banner waving in the air "GHOSTPOST'S FIRST ANNUAL CAR SHOW".
Hemi, at no point was my banter of domestic vs import.(or chevy vs Ford etc) I was in keeping an open mind.
Oh and I have taken steps to have music suggestively changed. Whether it happens or not is left ot be said.
Closed minded mentality will eventually be sitting alone in your own parking lot by yourself.
I stopped going to most shows because of it. Gave me a headache, Music so loud I couldnt hold a conversation drooling over someones ride trying to ask owner questions about their beautiful ride. And then I tripped over a lawn chair. I asked...are you camping because your only missing the firepit...
Does my opinion matter to you? Probably not. Does it matter to many, maybe. Would you like to see the hobby continue to grow? I hope so.
If you look outside the box, you may see I am not so wrong after all.
I grew up with the muscle car era and love them. My preference has been 55 to 80. But that doesnt mean I can not appreciate a pre 55 or a newer car either.
I love anything with 4 wheels and a motor. And if someone put blood sweat and tears into it, hats off to them. And I would be the first to defend you if a newer type tuner guy was making fun of your car.
All I am saying is hobby needs to grow not get smaller. Id like to see guys like my son continue the hobby for generations to come.

Just sayn
We are in agreement about the tunes. Death metal won't go over too well, but some Segar, Skynyrd, Steve Miller, Petty, Eagles, Neil Young type of music would be a welcome transition to eventually mix in some slightly edgier Van Halen, Floyd, Aerosmith, Rush type classic rock. Of course if that's all you played, it would be the same as now, just with different tunes, so you got to throw in some Stevie Ray, Doors, Hendrix and of course who doesn't absolutely love some fine (or maybe not so fine even) good old fashioned Rockabilly?

There is nothing that you didnt suggest that isnt in my CD collection already!
Agreed 100%
What makes me laugh inside if you go to most cruise nights...a large population of vehicles are say 60s and 70s cars with a smaller portion pre 60 and even smaller post 80. And a large population of those ownes of those cars are my age 40-60 ish....whom most of us grew up to classic rock. So why isn't it played more often or at all?
Music is one topic...so is being open to newer cars....or other stuff.
I have been to alot of shows from alot in Ontario to Woodward to Califorinia to Florida. Some cities and shows are evolving positivly and the hobby and shows are getting HUGE. Some are shrinking.
Just for the record. Im no kid, and into hotrods, muscle cars and classic rock. Im just thinking outside the box.
Lol! I had to play it back a bunch of times, I don't speak "brutha", ..but I think the general comment was " Don't bring your 'maro unless your rollin' 32's. Rim size does matter......blah, blah blah, blah, blah blah , blah blah blah....etc...
Oh Brutha!

Im 52 I hate the same old 50s music and am board to tears with the typical classic rock. I do how ever like the new age and old school Rockabilly. Check out some of the newer Rockabilly car shows all ages show up. My club is in the process of starting a new Rockabilly show up near Ottawa this summer. Bands pin-up contest custom bicycle show for the younger people less hype more fun.

I agree... ANY motorized, customized "hardware" deserves a look... Doesn't mean you have to like it, love it or copy it... Just accept it as one man's way of expressing his love for his stuff....
a wise man man once said... "others opinions of you are none of your business"...
Same can be said for this hobby... MY way, YOUR way.... It doesn't matter... The draw of this an - to me - the reason we go to these 'shows' it to show what we've done, and see what other do...
it's not wrong to be different - honestly it is refreshing....

Hello and Merry Christmas. I don't care for the large wheels on cars etc however as said before where is the hobby going? The music players could have music right up to today and include a diverse mix. I just listened to rockabilly the other day and liked it. Did not know what it was before but there are a lot of good songs and bands. Just for the record I like all brands and years of cars(pre 80's of course) and do not get into running down someones car because it isn't what I have.

I like all brands too, but it sure is fun busting ones balls about what they drive.
I recently saw a 90’s Impala SS with 275/25x24’s and I thought that was extreme. The car was still all black but no spinners on the wheels, just mags. I always liked that body style but with the original 17” wheels at the most, this one just looked weird in my opinion. But WOW, 32 inchers, $1,000 each just for the tires! To each their own, but WOW, times two. No thanks.
For the na sayers that claim its not a turd. Ill get him to pop a video in of me dancing in my leopard skin tights . I think you will change your mind or at least gouge your eyes out.
I have noticed at my local area cruise in's that the people walking & looking at the cars "ENJOY" the 50's & 60"s music!!! There are lipsinking the words, some are "BOPPIN"
to the music while moving along looking at the vehicles!!!Most cruise's have a yr.limit & "rightly so" & I hate to see the older cars 'turned away" at the entrance due to no more room when theres 20 to 30 new Camaro's, Charger's & Mustangs taking up space!! I've heard many people say " If I want to look at those I'll go to the Dealership" I'd rather see some "tuner" cars than a "bone stock" Mustang rag top, if you can keep them from living up to the "TUNER" name & "cranking up the BOOM BOOM music!!! Sorry folks, guess I'm just an "old fart" & believe these outings are for the Older cars & the "oldies" music!!! It takes you back in time, makes you feel "young " again!!!!!Just the same as getting behind the wheel of either My 64 or 51 I'm a teenager again [in mind only] Pete

Looks like history repeating its self . Factory stuff replacing hotrods and gearheads. I agree on the cutoff dates for shows and rodder activities . I am also closed minded about some things and remember when there was a 20yr slideing scale in play for events. The new retro cars do not interest me at all, factory hotrods for those who want the easy way into the hobby. There is nothing wrong with like minds together in an activity or club . I can see if someone customizes a later model or races one but these factory retro cars are no different than any other car at the same dealership lot. They are no different than a new mini van, econo car or pickup truck, so in my closed minded opinion are not hot rods . As for the music ,a mix of stuff would be better I think. One era can get pretty boring but please no Beeber,Bublay or Beestey Boys. Ed
Robert E. Petersen the founder of HotRod Magazine defined HotRod by any vehicle that has been enhanced by performance or appearance. That includes 32 dueces to Honda Civics, Sorry fellas.
And I been to the Petersen museum including at the time off limits "Vault". It houses eveything from HotRods, the Supercars to one off customs. And store boguht off the shelf rare untouched cars.
You may not like what is considered a hotrod but Petersen was the inventor of HotRod Magazine and more. HotRod name started in 45

Sorry guys and gal, but my defination of a hot rod is stuck in the past and I have no interest in entering the 21st century as I am quite happy with my prejudgess and backward thinking. I enjoy hanging with people who share an interest in old cars.If I had an interest in Tuners I would buy one and join a Tunner club or a 4x4 club or whatever.I can appreciate the work and funds that go into any hobby car, truck,or racer.I just have zero interest in the offerings of the new car dealers.I don't have anything against them or those who choose to spend there hard earned money on them but they aren't old and there are tens of thousands of them out there .Shear numbers suggest there has to be a cut off date or cruises and shows will be overwhelmed. We have mini vans,SUVs,and late model trucks whoses only mods are a set of custom wheels, filling spots at shows .If not a cutoff date then how do you controll the numbers. There are many different opinions on what constitutes a modified vehicle. As I posted before the rules used to be a 20yr sliding scale, seemed to work well and everyone understood the rules and intent. As for the music, change is good but I still have a problem with the Bee's Ed
I have never had a problem with the music or lawn chairs or had to worry if my feather duster matches my outfit by never pulling into a parking lot with one of these shows going on. drove past a few. although they did make me park by grumps at Paris. and wouldn't you know it I forgot my sign at home
First it was 4x4 car conversions. (Saw a 4x4 Vette near Walkerton this summer....PUKE) Then Pro street, disco version. Now we have trucks with mondo stacks and every bolt on imaginable....and now this crap.
Gimme normal back please!!
