Great video. The 'Dick Loehr gold Stampede Maverick Pro Stock' was bought by $andy Elliot and became Barrie Poole's second Pro Stock. It was acid dipped to the point you couldn't shut the door by the door handle or it would push in a couple of inches. Pro Stock technoligy was moving so fast in those days that the car quickly became obsolete and wasn't raced very long. I wonder where it is today?
Whoever lettered the wagon got it wrong. The front fender should read " Prepared and driven by Barrie Poole" NOT "Powered and driven by Barrie Poole" I'm surprised Barrie didn't try to sand it off.L.O.L.
I thought both Barrie Poole and John Elliott drove back in the day when they had more than 1 car at an event ? When I saw them at the Indy Nats in '67 ( or so ...I'm getting old ! ) , I remember Poole in the Comet and Elliott in the Mustang .

john my friend peter French owns that car and is restoring it as I type this. it will debute at the CK Nationals next year..buy the way he wants to buy that magazine from you ..Bob
JPB... The John Elliot Mustang you posted was crashed at St. Thomas by John. He didn't race much after that.
The day of the photo John had some trouble with the car. The pivot pin for the brake pedal had fallen out and there were no brakes. He got it to down gear but did crash in the "sand trap" at the end of the strip.Minor damage and some "belt rash" on his shoulders.

JPB The damage to the car was minor but at the time John told me it was a very scary ride.He sort of lost interest in drag racing and moved on to other interests.I think the changes in Super Stock racing was a big part of it and he really didn't want to run Pro Stock or brackets .My favourite John Elliot racecar was his 427 two door Comet when it was painted solid red. Ran great and looked great.
Keeping it Blue Oval,Bob what ever happened to the '64 Thunderbolt that was campained by Barry Poole and Dan Akin ? Was black with gold graphics used to race @ Sparta.

It was sold to a major Ford collector in Texas[?] or Oklahoma [?] and has been sold several times since. Last time I saw it was about 8 yrs ago racing in Bakersfield Calif.Still black but with the lettering removed except for the 'Sandy Elliot ' sticker on the trunk lid. Ran well but I don't know what or who's motor was in it.
