Hi John, Think of it as a sheet metal brake that can bend along curves.  When you get some time stop by.  I'll show you how it works.

Some work on the rear wheel wells...

1/4 Panel snapped onto the buck adds some perspective.

Brother-in-law jumps in to take these pieces from cardboard to metal.

Applying 'First Principles' to shape the tub's vertical panel

Panels scribed, trimmed, lined up and ready for tacking.

Tacking pieces together and planishing ... first pass.

Second pass...

Final welding... Next step will be to grind off the proud and finish the joint.

Features re-adjusted and final touches put on the grill shell.

Thanks again to everyone checking out this build.  I'll be around the shop most Saturday mornings in the coming weeks.  If anyone visiting the Falls wants to drop by, you're welcome to.  Shoot me a PM a day or so ahead of time.

Small build update.

Finishing off the rear tubs..

...and working on the door skins in between other things.  After some time in the wheel, they're taking on the needed shape... still a bit to go before it's sitting on the buck on it's own.

Body rails also shaped and ready to be mounted to the the buck.

So far, bits and pieces... not looking much like a point A to B appliance ... yet.

Body rails clamped in place.  Need to kinda squint with one eye and look past the buck.

Installing the temporary mounting points.

With the rails installed, it's time to start fabrication on the body's inner structure.

I blame it on adrenaline...get one piece made, fit and installed, which leads to another and another. Before you know it we're mocking things up to see what they look like. :)

Thanks Janice :)

Spent some time the other night filling in more blanks.

Inner rockers formed and clamped into place.

Tubs affixed to the body rails using self drilling/self tapping screws allowing them to quickly removed and accurately reinstalled.

Firewall sides/A pillars created and based on predetermined door hinge locations.

From cardboard to steel...the B pillars are almost done.

Now it's onto the other side...

Have a great weekend everyone. smile

Fitting the rear 1/4's to the finished B Pillars. Perimeter flanges need to be scribed and tipped(bent).

The roadster's panel fitting continues. They're finished on the inside just as well as they are on the outside.

Having fun with hinges...

Establishing the location of the hood hinge.

Setting clearances...

It's 'pivotal' that we get this step right.

Starting the hood structure.

Initial radial bends created for the front piece.

After some tipping and stretching the piece is taking shape. Using tape, the last flanges are being prepped for tipping.

Mocking up the front and rear pieces to get dimensions for the hood's side rails.

A shot of the A Pillars with the hinges mounted. Work on the door structure can begin.

Thanks for looking and have a great day! smile

Hi guys!  Here's a small update.

Opening the Roadster's hood structure for the first time. Everything works great! Now the joints can be finalized and reinforcements added to the
hinge and latch areas. 'Stay open' cylinders will also be added

Thanks for checking out the build!

Hi everyone!

Some work on the door structures...

Due to the angle of the A-pillar, the door has a slight uphill swing. A gas cylinder will be added to help open the door as well as keep it open.

Now it's time to start adding reinforcements and finalize the joints.

... and here are the beginnings of another significant part.

Any guesses? smile

It's just simply amazing the skill level and talent you have. And I'm not just talking about looks, the engineering behind the construction is spectacular.

I'll be watching...in awww

Welcome to the hood!

Here's how it took shape.

This is how those profile pieces relate to the actual profiles created for the hood.

Taking the leap and cutting out the area that fits the windshield.

Playing with a few lines for the hood’s front section feature.

After some initial stretching and a few minutes in the wheel the profile comes to life.

Tacking the sections together.

Final welding…

Next step will be to tip the perimeter flanges, but that's after the structure has been finished up

Close up of the hood's centre feature.

Thanks for looking.smile

Installing the top firewall section.

Steve begins fabrication of the cab's structural webs.

Cleaning up and shuffling things around in the shop.

Hi Everyone, here's a little update on the roadster build.

We finished the hood skin off with the centre peak.  It's basically ready to install soon as the structure has been finished.

Steve tightening up the cab's top radius.

Rear exterior panels a little closer to being done.  Door latches have been installed and did some more welding to solidify the side panels.  We have to be careful how much is assembled on the buck.. since we still need to remove it.

Thanks for looking and have a great day!

It seems that aspects of the hot rodding hobby is fading away to some degree. So, if I can help inspire someone to realize their automotive dream.. and not necessarily to the degree in this thread... then i guess that's a good thing. I'm sure I speak for other as well when I say that the build threads people post kinda emulate the idea of someone visiting, pulling up a stool in the corner of the shop and watching the build evolve.

Thanks very much for the kind words Ed.

Inspirational work and words Nick.

To be able to visualize something of this magnitude is astonishing, then being able to bring it to fruition is something greater altogether.

Love this thread, well done sir.

Primer hits the panels! ...at least when it comes to the door and hood structures. Can't help getting a little excited. Before the exterior skins are installed, everything will be sealed to prevent corrosion.

Working on the door skins.  Wheeling the shoulder feature area on the door skin a bit before actually creating the feature.

Tipping wheel used to create the door's shoulder feature.

Passenger door cutlines measured out with tape for that final 3/16" gap.

Centre line is marked using the buck. Base off the intial mark, the inner line is the bend and outer line indicates where to cut off the excess material.

Here's a before and after of the shoulder feature. Like pinstripes on a suit... this feature gives the panels that refined appearance.  Definitely worth the extra work.

Rear 1/4 features are next... those are gonna be 'fun'!

Hi everyone! smile

It's been some time since the last roadster build post.  With Christmas quickly approaching things have been pretty crazy around here.

The roadster project has been moving ahead over the past few weeks with a lot of little details being addressed before the panels are removed from the buck.

Here's a small update.

Close up of us creating the shoulder line profiles using the tipping wheel for the rear 1/4's.

1/4's re-mounted on the buck

Working on the hood and trunk lid structures.

Thanks for looking.
