Flathead Ford Offenhauser Intake
Permalink

Looking for an idea what this is worth....

Have found someone with it for sale, along with a 1940 Flathead V8 (working 2 years ago) that has the Canadian Block and the distributor setup as well.

The Offenhauser intake is mounted as a tripower setup with Stromberg 94 Carbs (working and in great condition)

I have not physically seen the motor yet, as he is attempting to get the pictures together for me, but I have seen pictures of the intake setup.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure of the value either but if you can't hear it run than assume the worst.
At the very least, have the seller drop the pan and have a look at the internals.

This engine setup as you described it to me at the price he wants is an absolute steal. Buy it now or if you don't want it, give us the owners name and it will be gone in 10 minutes.  Pictures do very little, if it isn't as he described when you go to pick it up, walk away.

I have seen both the flathead and the tri power

Big Deal....rusty old flattie....cant tell crap from that other than it seems complete....could be toast inside

It didnt look like the 337 truck block....the car one is more disireable....still only 200 hp....on a good day...but looks great!

the tri-power is or has been used....dirty but complete with linkage...seems to work....linkage

Again could be dried up inside

Correct.......assume the worst....flattie rebuild....tri-power re-gasket

I have seen runners sell for $2-3,000 running with that set-up.....could be that to rebuild

on the otherhand i have seen flatties sit for years....a little gas and spark and off they go

The 337 car is 150 hp the truck 145  at the end of the line 53 , 54 the 239 putting out 110 hp and 194 torque the 255 topped out  at 125hp your going to spend large coin to get 200 hp out of any of these with dyno results to prove it Id guess in the 10 large range. your never going to impress anyone at the drag's . They look cool and if you run one in a light car and keep it in the torque range they will put a smile on your face that's hard to wipe off.

Here's one going for 3500 this guy moves them on a regular basis

This is about the best I've found on squeezing power out of a pigs ear  starts off slow but lots of reading digger Dave has been at this for decades.

Stromburgs are 48s 81s or 97s, Ford Holly is the 94s, in the pics they look like Holly's. 337 flathead has the disritbutor at the back, and 27 head bolts or studs. The 239 Ford and the 255 Merc, have the same block, only the crank & pistons are different. Ford has a 3 3/4 stroke, Merc is 4 inch. Pull the heads and look for cracks between the waterjackets and the cylinders. If there is it's junk. Last couple I've bought with a guarantee, if they're NFG I get my money back. Some cracks can be repaired, everthing else can be bought new. I paid $500 for the Stromburgs and the Offy, pictured in my avatar, rebuilding is $600 +linkage, and I'll have around 6 grand in the engine. 200 horses, good luck. Oh Ya, I paid $200 for the motor.

I went in a different direction, I bought a 289 with a 600 cfm Edelbrock carb.

If anyone is interested in the setup pictured above with or without the motor, let me know and I will put you in contact with the seller.
